It has been another very exciting week here at BVIS and the events and activities seem to be increasing as we approach the final week of term! On Monday our Year 11 students had the opportunity to visit ERC for careers and university advice and guidance. On Tuesday the Year 11 students then embarked on the first ever careers fair to be held here at BVIS. Employers from across the city came to BVIS to carry out mock interviews with our students, present to them their businesses and give the students further advise on choosing careers and in particular give the students an opportunity to practice their interview skills. It was great to see all the students fully engaged in the process and were properly dressed for the occasion. The students followed this up with two days of work experience on Thursday and Friday. I would like to extend a huge thank you to Mr Reid and his team for setting up such a fantastic week for our Year 11 students. See more in: Careers Fair for Year 11 to ERC University and BVIS
On Monday the secondary school staff and students welcomed the upcoming Year 6 students to the school and gave them a taster of the exciting curriculum they will enjoy next academic year. This was followed by a very successful parent afternoon on Tuesday. Staff and students spoke eloquently about the Year 7 academic curriculum and what to expect once they transfer to the secondary school. See more in: Year 6 Transition Day and Parents’ Evening
It has now become a tradition at BVIS that we hold an annual Dodgeball competition with staff competing against students. This has always been an exciting and fun event and this year was no exception. It was evident that the teachers were taking the competition very seriously with many purchasing proper team kits to try and intimidate the opposition. It was a fantastic occasion and one that will live in the memories of all involved. A big thank you to the PE staff for organising and supervising the competition. On Wednesday and Thursday we held our annual KS1 and KS2 swimming galas. It was great to see so many students participating in such a fun event. It was well organised and many parents attended to witness a fabulous couple of days of swimming and pool activities. I would like to thank Tam for an exceptionally well organised event and thank you to the many parents who attended to support these galas. On Thursday evening we hosted our very first sports awards evening. Over two hundred people packed into the auditorium to witness a spectacular show of sport talent across the school. It was a very special evening and certainly made me acutely aware of the scope and breadth of sports talent we have nurtured in just a very short space of time. Just this year we have significantly increased the sports clubs, squads and competitions that our students are participating in. This was most evident on the evening and bodes well for next year. Thank you to Mr Kenny for a great idea and a marvellous event. See more in: Sport Awards Evening 2015
Finally, on Friday during the primary assembly, Ms Rosy and her team took the opportunity to say farewell to the primary teachers who are leaving and to wish them well for their future career moves. This was a very moving and heartfelt assembly with an excellent video production including all the classes, teachers and staff from across the school.
I wish you all a very relaxing weekend.
