The last week of term is upon us once again, and I know the students and teachers are looking forward to a well-deserved break. None more so, perhaps, than our intrepid Duke of Edinburgh pioneers. It wasn't quite Antarctica, but carrying several kilograms of equipment over 10km each day in the tropical sun in Dalat is challenge enough. Lam in year 12 sums up the experience perfectly here. Our thanks to Mr Webb, Ms Julie and Ms Tuoc who gave up their weekend to endure the same hardships as the students!
Of course, it's not going to be much of a break for our IGCSE and A level students who will be revising hard over the break. There are a number of revisit sessions going on during the holidays, and I urge students to come along to these. The exams start in earnest on 3 May and a full timetable can be found here.
The end of term assembly is always one of my favourite occasions. To recognise the achievements of so many talented young people makes us so proud, as I know it does you as parents. This term we have outstanding success in sports, the arts, the World Scholar’s Cup, university entries and maths on a local, national and global scale. There was more sporting competition on Thursday as the under 19 boys took part in the city championships.
I also had the great honour of hosting the second BVIS Masterchef final. Competition was fierce, judging was a joy (we struggled to get Mr Lowry to leave!) but in the end only one team was victorious…See who it was here.
You will have received your child’s term 2 report this week. For year 7 and 10 parents you also had the chance to discuss their levels with your child’s class teachers at parents’ evening – thank you to all of you who came along. For year 11-13 students, parents will also have received a tutor comment. I hope you find this additional information not only useful, but also indicative of how well the teachers at BVIS not only know your children, but also genuinely care about their wellbeing beyond the classroom.
I wish you all a safe and enjoyable Spring break and look forward to seeing everyone again when school reopens on Monday, 25 April.
