Secondary Update – Mr Simon Graves – 05/05/2017

Exams are up and running now, and our year 11, 12 and 13 students are working hard to achieve their very best grades in their IGCSE, AS and A level exams. It’s important at this stressful time that we support all of the young people in attaining the best possible grades. To this end, please ensure that your child:

  • gets plenty of sleep each night;
  • avoids devices such as phones, tablets, laptops and television before going to bed;
  • eats three, healthy meals each day – including breakfast;
  • arrives to school in plenty of time for each exam;
  • has an exam timetable printed out, and shares this with you;
  • is using a revision timetable, and revising sensibly in the weeks leading up to an exam, not cramming the night before.

For more support with revision, please see the link here

This week is Eco Week and we’ve been thinking about what we can do to make the Earth a cleaner place to live. Did you know that Vietnam is one of five countries who produce 60% of the world’s plastic waste?!  We’ve taken a small step towards cleaning up this part of Ho Chi Minh City by placing a ban on plastic bags form the Sunken Garden – you can do your bit too by saying no to plastic bags in shops when you buy small items, and taking reusable bags for your shopping. Only together can we make a difference.

The House Swimming Competition ended this week, with the results here.

In addition, I’d like to say a massive well done to Ngo Thanh Lam, 13V and Dang Thanh Thuan Nhi, 13I for being the first ever BVIS students to obtain their Duke of Edinburgh International Bronze Awards! This is a fantastic achievement, and is an award valued by universities and employers alike across the world. We look forward to many more students gaining their awards in the coming weeks and years, and a big thank you must go to Mr Cryan, Mr Webb and Ms Jackson for their support in running the scheme.

Finally, although their Graduation isn’t for another two weeks, today marks the final day of official schooling at BVIS for our Year 13 students. I would like to thank them for all their wonderful contributions to the school over the years, for their humour and enthusiasm, their determination and their positive attitudes. Whether you have been with us for 2 years or 6, you will always be a part of BVIS, and BVIS will always be a part of you. I wish you all the luck in the world in your A levels and at university next year. I have no doubt that each one of you will go on to achieve greatness.

Have a lovely weekend.
