Now that we are getting to the end for the first full week of teaching, students and teachers are settling down to their routines there is a great atmosphere around the school. I have had the opportunity to visit some lessons this week and see at first hand the enthusiasm our students have for learning in a whole range of subjects including Art, Drama, Maths and Science. When I visited the school before the summer I thought we had a great group of students and teachers, and I have this week firmly reinforced that impression.
Last week I wrote about how successful our graduating class had been in gaining entrance to some of the best universities in the world. It may seem early to start thinking about this but Mr Curran has already planned an exciting program of activities this term to assist our year 13 students get into a great university. It includes advice on where to apply, help with writing personal statements and essays, a workshop on applying for scholarships and visits from university and college representatives from all over the world. We are also holding two college and university fairs later in the term to which all parents in years 12 and 13 will be invited. The UK fair is 14.30-16.00 on Tuesday 10 October and the USA fair is 11.30-13.00 on Friday 20 October. Each fair provides a great opportunity to meet representatives from a range of universities and ask questions about courses, scholarships and entry requirements.
I’d also encourage any parent who has questions or concerns about universities to come and talk to Mr Curran, our College and University Guidance Counsellor. Mr Curran has an excellent knowledge of the university sector around the world and before joining us worked at a UK university. He is available throughout the year to guide students and parents through the process of applying to universities all over the world.
Our PE teachers have been asking students to sign up for our sports teams this week and the trials have been running this week so that we can select our sports squads.
There will be many more opportunities throughout the year with for student to get involved in sports arts and academic enrichment. As well as extra curricular clubs we have a great programme of plays and musical events which I would ask you to encourage your children to take part in.
Have a fantastic weekend
