This week I was very happy to be contacted by some of our student who have submitted a proposal to run a programme of events and activities to help their fellow students make well informed choices for their university courses and future careers. Some of the teachers have already volunteered to work with these students and the student council to help them bring their vision to life. This is a great example of the enthusiasm of our excellent student body that makes BVIS such a great place to work and learn.
Last year we ran a very successful trip to Tanzania as part of the Nord Anglia Global Classroom and this Thursday our students were preparing to embark this year's a life-changing trip to Tanzania and opened a stall selling goods the student and staff have generously donated to the cause. All proceeds raised will go towards purchasing equipment and supplies vital to the community projects the team will be working on in Tanzania in January next year. Last year this work included building much-needed accommodation for teaching staff working in local schools.
Many said that the contributions they made to these projects was the most rewarding and satisfying part of the trip, demonstrating very clearly how much personal satisfaction can be gained from giving your giving your time and resources to those less fortunate.
The stall is now open twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes, so please bring along any unwanted (good quality) items or come and see if you can pick up a bargain or two.
Please also come and talk to Mr Duff, Ms Riley or Ms Penner if you’d like to get involved.
Year 13 have started their university application support sessions this week. This process was supported by our Careers and University coordinator Mr Curran who has given the students a much better insight into the range of universities open to them. Students from BVIS have gone to a wide range of universities and countries around the world. In recent years students have gained places in some of the top universities in Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, Holland, Australia, Dubai, the USA, UK and here in Vietnam.
Next Tuesday 12th September we would like to invite all parent of students in year 7, 8 and 9 to attend our meet the tutor evening. Our meetings will start at 4.30 and this will be repeated on Thursday 14th for years 10 to 13. We see building relationships between parents and teachers as a crucial part of you son and daughter’s education. Please check you emails for an invite to these events. We really hope you will be able to come along and talk to use then.
In the meantime have a great weekend.
