Secondary Update – Mr Jack Rudin – 16/03/2018

16 March 2018

Dear Parents,

This week the we have had some great events:

U19 TABLE TENNIS SQUAD - 3rd place in SISAC City Championships.

The 6 man strong team of Huy Anh, Oscar, Hao, Khoa (all year 9) Lam and Rony (year 7) competed last week in the Table Tennis City Championships at SIS against 5 other international schools. Competing against students much older than themselves they all played fantastically to secure a convincing 3rd place, only 6 points behind SSIS and SIS who came joint 1st. Huy Anh had a brilliant afternoon, winning 5 out of 6 games as the 1st seed. Khoa playing as 3rd seed for the first time also won 5 out of 6, showing a very mature attitude and great composure.. Lam and Rony battled incredibly hard to win 3 out of 5 of their singles and won some fantastic doubles matches later in the afternoon. Hao and Oscar played consistently throughout the afternoon picking up some excellent wins in both the singles and doubles. A great achievement, in particular as all are still eligible to play in the U14 competition which we unfortunately were unable to attend this year. Congratulations!

KS3 celebrated Science Week this week by taking on a unique challenge linked to the Global Goals - to design and build a model for a ‘floating garden’ which could be used by farmers in countries which experience severe flooding annually. Students worked in their House teams to use their creativity and design skills to produce the model which could support the most mass.

We are now less than a week away from our Secondary Musical: Alice in Wonderland. Students have been working extremely hard over the weekends and after school to prepare a magical show for you to enjoy. Just to remind you that tickets are FREE and no reservation is required. We hope to see lots of you there to support the students!

On Thursday evening we were pleased to see so many parents coming to our talk about Supporting students through their examination. Mr Curran and myself, spoke about how students could get into the right frame of mind and some revision techniques to help them make the most of their time.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the students in years 11 12 and 13 every success in their examinations in the summer.

I hope you and your families have a great weekend.

Jack Rudin
