This week in the Primary School
Art in the Primary School
Last weekend one of our Year 5 students, Nguyen Ngoc Ai Linh in class 5V, received an award in the annual Westcoast International Smiles Art Contest. Congratulations to her for her colourful prize-winning entry!
This year, and next academic year too, art is one of our focus areas for development. Part of our ongoing professional practice at the British Vietnamese International School is to set development targets annually to deliver staff training, improve our facilities, resources and procedures as well as review our curriculum. This is part and parcel of our commitment to our BVIS families to deliver high quality learning to the children in our care.
The development in the Primary art curriculum has seen the introduction of an art specialist teacher this year, Mr Jon. Next year we will also be opening a specialist art room in the Primary school.
This week I visited one of Mr Jon’s art lessons in Y1 as this term he is delivering a series of skills-based lessons in every year group:
Year 1 – colour and shapes
Year 2 – textures and 3D drawing
Year 3 – colour mixing
Year 4 – tone shading and drawing toys
Year 5 – perspective
Year 6 – still life drawing
The children have enjoyed their opportunity to learn with Mr Jon this year and have produced some excellent pieces of art work as a result.
