Principal Update BVIS HCMC

Mr Simon Higham - Principal

Mr. Simon Higham, Principal

I am currently writing to you from a very cold and snowy London as I am representing our school at the annual Nord Anglia Education recruitment event.

Teachers Recruitment BVIS HCMC

This year, across all Nord Anglia schools including BVIS, we have received more applications from teachers for fewer teaching positions. This goes to show that the very best teachers from around the world are wanting to be part of our educational journey. I am pleased to share with you that we are currently finalising the last few posts for the next academic year and I am confident that we have the right people for our school community.

BVIS HCMC Tet Festival 2019

Following the recruitment event, I will be returning to HCMC at the very soonest in order to attend our Tet Festival on Sunday. I am really looking forward to experiencing this event for the very first time and hope that you are all excited about the many activities that are on offer to you and your family. The gates open at 8.30am with the fun starting immediately.

This week is your final chance to complete our annual Parent Satisfaction Survey. At the moment, we have increased our response rate to 49% - just 1% away from our target of 50%. If you haven’t taken part yet, you can help us to achieve this target with one simple click on the link below. It is live until 31st January.

Parent Satisfaction Survey 2018-2019

Here at BVIS, our youngest children start full time school in Foundation 1 (F1) at age 2 and we are committed to working alongside parents to ensure the smoothest transition possible from home to the classroom. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) creates the educational foundation that is essential to becoming a life long learner. Settling into school life can be challenging and if you would like to read more about how we help to support you and your child settle into BVIS, click here to access this post by Mrs. Catherine Roach, EYFS Coordinator and F3 Teacher.

Primary Update BVIS HCMC

KS1 Sports Morning

On Tuesday morning Year 1 and Year 2 children enjoyed their annual sports morning, where they had fun circulating around a range of fun activities including ‘balance beam’, ‘rolling ball’ and my personal favourite the ‘3-legged race’. For every activity they completed, they earned a point for their house. For the Year 1 children this was especially exciting at this was their first primary sports day. Thanks to the parents who were able to join us and support their children.

KS2 Speech and Poetry Evening

One of the annual highlights is the KS2 Speech and Poetry evening which took place on Thursday evening. A child from each class in Year 3 and 4 was selected to take part in a poetry recital competition and children from Year 5 and 6 had the opportunity to share their personal speeches. The theme this year was is linked to Global Goal 4 - Quality Education for all . All the children presented brilliantly with poems and speeches in both English and Vietnamese. It was great to see BVIS children being so thoughtful and reflective about how important education is for everyone. Thanks to our EAL team for organising a great evening.

Secondary Update BVIS HCMC

Mr Jack Rudin, Head of Secondary

This week our Drama A level exam got underway with the year 13s performing for the external examiner from the UK. Miss Clements thought the students gave some of their best performances ever. We wish them luck.

Fobisia World Music Festival Trip in Singapore

On Friday 18th – Saturday 19th January several Year 11 and 12 Music students had the pleasure of travelling to Singapore to take part in the 2019 FOBISIA World Music Festival. The festival was held at Tanglin Trust school and involved many different FOBISIA schools around Asia, including ones from India and China. During the festival BVIS students learnt about different styles of music and instruments from Indonesia, Latin America, Africa and Europe. They took part in several concerts and had the exciting opportunity to play alongside professional artists and musicians.

To top it off, BVIS students got to perform with the legendary Havana Social Club Band and even learnt how to salsa dance! It was a highly successful trip enjoyed by all.

Thank you to all Music students for your enthusiasm and participation in this fantastic trip!
