Mr. Simon Higham, Principal
On behalf of all our teaching and non-teaching staff, I would like to extend a warm ‘welcome back’ to our BVIS community.
Whether this is your first week as a parent at our school or whether this is your 9th year with us, thank you for choosing our school to educate, motivate and inspire your children. It is a privilege to have this responsibility and as I mentioned in my presentation to all new parents at the Orientation Event on Tuesday, learning has no limits at BVIS and across our Nord Anglia Education family.
I would also like to extend a warm welcome to all our new teaching staff who have successfully completed their BVIS Orientation and are now in their second full week in Vietnam. Read more about their first few weeks in HCMC in this post and look out for more information about each one of their individual journeys in the forthcoming Weekly Highlights.
Engage and Connect with Us
A strong focus for us this year is to try and further develop parental engagement across the school. Please take time to talk with your child about their learning and make it a priority to work with us in partnership so that we can optimise their educational experiences and opportunities across the whole year.
At BVIS, we continue to operate an open-door policy so if there is something we are doing well – come and share it with us. If there is something that we can do better – come and share it with us.
Each week, we will be sending you these Weekly Highlights that consist of important information from myself, Ms Rosy (Primary Headteacher) and Mr Rudin (Secondary Headteacher). Please take at least 5 minutes each week to read through the information to keep connected with our school. The Weekly Highlights can be found in the ‘News’ section on our school website.
Safeguarding – Swipe Cards and Lanyards
All parents should now have been issued with two newly updated lanyards, plastic wallets and swipe cards for each child.
Thank you to every parent who has been wearing their lanyard and swipe card at all times when on the school site. In doing this, it allows us to visually identify designated adults who are in school via their blue lanyard and also identify visitors to our school via their red lanyard. It also helps us to approach any adult who is not wearing a form of identification.
As always, the safety of all the students at BVIS remains our number one priority and your support to continually improve and maintain this is very much appreciated.
We are pleased to be able to share with you our excellent examination results that have been attained for 2019. This is our 5th year of results and each cohort continues to go from strength to strength, achieving results we are all very proud of.
Our students in Years 10 and 11 are entered for the Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE. Grades are awarded by Cambridge International Examinations and Exdecel on a scale from A* to G.
- An amazing 42% of all our grades were A* or A
- 89% of students received at least 5 A*-C grades overall
- Nearly 80% of students received at least 5 A*-C grades including English and Maths, the standard expected across the world for many careers
A Level Results
Our students in Years 12 and 13 are entered for Cambridge International Examinations and Edexcel International AS and International A levels. Passing grades are awarded by the examination boards on the scale A to E for International AS level, and A* to E for International A level.
- 24% of grades were A*-A
- 50% of all A level grades were A*-B
- 64% of all grades were at C grade or above
We congratulate all of our students for their amazing efforts and attainment and would like to especially congratulate the students below for their individual, phenomenal achievements:
- Ho Chau Kiet attained 7A* grades and 2 As at IGCSE
- Lam Thuy Hien, Ngo Thanh Nha and Tran Ngoc Que Nhien all attained 100% A or A* grades at A level
Our 6th form graduates can now focus on the next chapter of their academic lives using their promising A Level results to secure their placements at the very top universities worldwide.
The value of A levels is nicely summed up by Stuart Schmill the Dean of Admissions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, currently the top ranked university in the world, who writes: "Students who have taken A Levels do very well at our campus. They are very well-prepared for our curriculum and we find that they have a lot of confidence, but also that they have a good deep subject knowledge, and the ability to think critically and well.”
Congratulations to you all again. Your amazing academic success, maturity and pride towards our school, motivates us all even further, to enhance the outstanding education that we provide for all students at BVIS!
Summer School 2019
Further congratulations go to all of our Summer School students who came back to school for an amazing 3 weeks of fun learning from 1st to 19th July.
I would like to thank all our Summer School staff who made this an enriched learning experience for every student and to our incredible children who attended for their willingness to work hard, make new friends and have great fun learning along the way.
