Primary Update BVIS HCMC

Ms Rosy Clark, Head of Primary

International Week 2020

We began our new term with our annual International Week here in the Primary school. Learning has been focussed upon different continents around the world as follows:

Year Group

Early Years

South Korea

Year 1 and Year 2

Asia and Australasia

Mongolia, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand

Year 3

North America

Year 4

Italy and Spain

Year 5

Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Mali

Year 6

South America

Learning has covered topics such as: language, geography, food, the creative arts (including art and dance) and celebrations. For older children, some more complex topics have been explored such as beliefs and perceptions. For example, Year 5 children found out about the impact of trade upon the lives of people.

Teachers have supported the children’s understanding of difference and similarity by exploring their lives in Vietnam compared to the lives of children in other countries, especially in Year 6 where the children looked at comparisons between Brazil and Vietnam.

At BVIS we actively encourage our children’s development as global citizens with a Vietnamese perspective so, before the Tet holidays later this month, our children will spend some time learning more about the traditions of Tet.

New House Display Areas

Đội Nhà House Sports BVIS HCMC

It has been great to come back and see the improvements that have been made around the school over the holiday. This year we have been developing and improving our house system and there has been a considerable increase in the number of house competitions and events across the whole school. We have been very impressed with our student house leaders this year and they have asked for an area in school for them to promote their house and publicise what they are doing. We were pleased to provide this over the holiday and we are now looking forward to seeing the growth of displays within these areas.

Parents Evening

BVIS HCMC Trung Học Quốc Tế

Mr Higham has already mentioned the parents’ evenings next week for Year 11, 12 and 13 students and parents. It is a very important time for these students as they have just completed their mock exams and are now in the final parts of their courses before their IGCSE, AS and A Level examinations. We would like to see all parents attend these events. Please check the emails that we have sent you and sign up for appointments using the links provided.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at: Simon.Higham@bvisvietnam.com to give feedback on our Weekly Highlights and how they can be further improved in the future.
