What is Global Campus?
Global Campus (GC) is a personalised online learning platform that is exclusive to Nord Anglia students. Our team of experts monitor all online activities, so your child is always in a safe and secure online environment. The platform caters to students of all ages and includes projects for self-directed learning as well as activities which can be undertaken with the support of teachers and parents.
We are delighted to introduce you to our Global Campus Leaders for the academic year 2020-2021: Ms. Hannah Drabwell as Primary Global Campus Leader and Ms. Katie Ann Mumby-Cole as Secondary Global Campus Leader at BVIS HCMC. As Global Campus Leaders, they will be responsible for promoting the Global Campus platform and encouraging our students to interact with other children from around the world through global challenges linked to a variety of different areas such as STEAM, Performing Arts, Literacy, Social Impact, Wellbeing and much, much more.
Both Ms Hannah and Ms Mumby-Cole are excited to share more about Global Campus with BVIS community.
What are the new exciting changes from Global Campus this year?
Ms. Hannah: GC now has three great sections to support each learning age group. GC Senior is aimed at our amazing AS and A-Level students, GC core runs right across from Y4 through to Y11, and GC Junior provides activities for even our youngest students.
- Global Campus Junior (for under 8 years old)
- Global Campus Core (for 8 years old to 16 years old)
- Global Campus Senior (for 17 years old +)
Ms. Katie: This year we have lots more competitions too which means that although our students are unable to travel to compete elsewhere, they can still challenge themselves and others through harnessing online communication. There are dance competitions, virtual musician of the year awards, and some amazing social impact challenges that can really make a difference to local and regional areas.
What are the opportunities and benefits GC will bring to BVIS students?
Ms Hannah & Ms. Katie: Global Campus will develop our whole school ethos of Global Citizenship, through interactions with children from around the globe. They will be able to learn from children in different cultures and become members of a global learning community. The children will have the opportunity to engage in virtual STEAM challenges, community impact projects and even activities to promote their health and wellbeing. Global Campus is regularly being updated with new ideas and activities; the children will be exposed to a varied and wide range of topics.
Are there any differences in projects/objectives focus among Primary and Secondary GC?
Ms Hannah & Ms. Katie: Lots of the projects link our Primary and our Secondary, as GC Core is aimed at ages 8 years and up. This means siblings can work on projects together, and friendship groups that run across Primary and Secondary can compare, compete and converse about their Global Campus learning. Some of the bigger projects we will be encouraging will be whole school, so keep your eyes peeled for those in the coming weeks!
As GC Leaders, what will you do to promote Global Campus across our BVIS community?
Ms. Hannah: We will be an encouraging voice, pointing students in the direction of some amazing Global Campus activities and challenges.
Ms. Katie: We will also communicate with parents about ways the whole family can become involved with the platform to support their children’s ongoing education and personal growth.
Look out for more exciting Global Campus information from our GC Leader!
