BVIS Central Vietnam Flood Appeal – Update
Following our Halloween activity week and dress up day on Friday, I am pleased to report that to date, our community has currently raised 66,529,000VND.
In addition, we have also collected a large amount of food, clothing and stationery that will be distributed within Quang Tri province in the Central Vietnam region, who have been affected by the flooding and storm damage.
This week, we have continued our efforts for the flood appeal through further collections of food, clothing and stationery, together with more delicious brownies for sale across the whole week in both Primary and Secondary Foyers.
Once, I have the final total of money raised and items collected, I will update you further on how your integrity, care and respect has helped to support local communities during such challenging times.
Health and Safety – our number one priority
With our enhanced Health and Safety procedures now becoming our ‘new normal’, over the last 2 weeks, we have successfully completed both our Emergency Evacuation and Lockdown drills.
As a regular event in our school calendar, we ensure that all students and staff members are familiar with our emergency drills and fully understand what is needed to do should we find ourselves in an emergency situation. If the fire alarm sounds when you are on site, the assembly point for any school evacuation is the field area.
In addition, should you hear the instructions, ‘Lockdown, Lockdown, Lockdown’ when you are in school, you must go to the nearest lockable room and wait for the ‘Lockdown over, Lockdown over, Lockdown over’ to be sounded.
This weekend, ask your child(ren) to talk you through these drills as they will be able to advise you about what to do, should we face an emergency when you are in school.
Meet our New Teachers
This week, the new teacher in the spotlight is Ms Jessica Blick, who is one of our new Whole School PE Teachers.
1. Where did you live prior to coming to Vietnam, what role did you have and what was the name of your previous school?
Prior to living in Vietnam, I lived in Qingdao in China for 3 years and I taught at Malvern College Qingdao, where I was Head of Physical Education, Head of House, House Cup Coordinator and the International Award Leader and Coordinator.
2. What were your first impressions of BVIS?
Caring!! When I arrived at BVIS for the first time I was greeted by warm smiles. As soon as I walked through the gates, I felt the energy and friendliness of the entire community. It is lovely to be part of such a positive atmosphere!
3. What is your teaching philosophy in short?
I strongly believe that children of all abilities should be provided with the opportunity to participate in Physical Education both recreationally and competitively. I am passionate about teaching Secondary and Primary school students about the values of participating in Physical Education.
4. What 3 things are you looking forward to doing whilst working and living in Vietnam?
Where do I start?
I am looking forward to travelling to Vietnam and sampling the amazing food and coffee! In particular, I am looking forward to visiting Mui Ne so I can get on the water to windsurf and kitesurf. I am excited to visit the surrounding islands, in particular – Phu Quoc. I also cannot wait to travel the coast of Vietnam on a motorbike!
5. If you could sum up your experience so far in just one word, what would it be?
That is tough! Incredible!!
