Secondary International Week 2020

At the end of each year we focus on developing students’ Global Citizenship, their communication skills, teamwork and subject knowledge. This year four Teams of teachers put together activities to meet these aims.

BVIS HCMC Secondary International Week 2020

International Week – Humanities

Humanities have been looking at current global issues related to climate change, sustainability, history and business. Each house has investigated one of these issues to write and produce a news report ‘live from the scenes’ within their designated countries, which were: Nigeria, India, Venezuela and Hungary.  Students really took to it with gusto learning lots of new and interesting things about the countries, and with some great performances in front of the camera by students of all ages.

International Week – House Challenge

In mixed age house groups, the students have been using creative skills to develop a boardgame promoting community spirit and good citizenship.  Through the creation of a board, playing pieces, objectives and interesting twists and turns, students have considered morals, values and principles of being an effective member of the local and wider community.

International Week - Maths

Students have been taking part in problem-solving and enrichment activities in small groups to compete in an exciting environment against their peers. Students have been creative, flexible and confident in their work and have greatly enjoyed the range of activities on offer. Perhaps most impressive has been some of our Year 7 and 8 students working through questions that are normally given to Year 11 or 12 students!

International Week – Science

By 2050, the oceans will contain more plastics than fish.

A global issue with a very local solution.

BVIS students worked tirelessly in mixed year groups to research the problem of plastic and devised ingenious ways to reduce their plastic use.

Students are now asking that parents make Plastic Pledges

“What small changes are you willing to make to reduce your plastic consumption?”
