The end of a school year is always a great time for reflection and this year is no exception. Back in February, I wrote to all parents and stated the following:
“Our whole BVIS community have been absolutely magnificent this week and I am pleased to hear of so much excellent interaction going on between home and school. These online activities will continue throughout next week during the enforced closure and we encourage all parents to ensure that every child is regularly accessing and fully completing their online work.”
Little did we know that it would take 3 months to write the following email:
“I am writing to inform you that, unless we are directed not to do so, BVIS HCMC will reopen on Monday 4th May.’”
Throughout this year, amongst all the uncertainties and across both the high and low points, one thing has remained constant throughout – the strength and support of our school community.
I think it is fair to say that this year has been the most challenging one of our professional lives however at times, I have been overwhelmed with the support that has been shown from our students, teachers and parents. BVIS truly is a special place to be and I look forward to leading it to become even better in the future.
Thank you for your ongoing support and always understand that our aim remains clear – to develop children who are happy, cared for and safe within an environment that focuses upon developing a global citizen with a true Vietnamese perspective.

Ms Rosy Clark, Head of Primary
Farewell from Ms Rosy
After 9 years at BVIS, my final week typified what I have valued so much about the BVIS Primary community:
Learning inside and outside of the classroom environment F1 children, the youngest in the school, took an exciting bus trip this week as part of their learning about transport.
Extraordinary learning opportunities for our children Even in the final week of the academic year, our Year 4 teachers and teaching assistants provided a wonderful ‘sleepover with a big day in’.
Excellent achievements It was with great pride that I attended our Year 6 Graduation on Tuesday and was a witness to the wide range of achievements that were celebrated at the end of the children’s Primary school education.
High quality performance This week, there have been several performances that have taken place, for example in the Y5 Exit Point, Y6 Graduation and Friday’s End of Year Celebration. BVIS Primary students love to perform, showcasing their confidence and creativity for us all to enjoy.
Team work BVIS Primary is a team and community that shares and cares. I have been overwhelmed this week with the wonderful messages and thoughts that all members of the team, children, staff and parents, have shared with me at the end of my time here as Head of Primary.
Thank you everyone for your support during my 9 years at BVIS. I am extremely proud to have been your founding Head of Primary and I take many, many wonderful memories of this outstanding school with me as I leave Vietnam.
Mr Jack Rudin, Head of Secondary
English Music Festival Project
This week, in their English lessons, some of our Year 9 classes were able to design and present their own unique musical festival. Students were able to decide on factors such as the location, catering, theme, musicians and pricing. They then created a PowerPoint explaining their decisions and presented their ideas to the class; then answered questions about their concept.
All involved had a great time, and the presentations were of an amazing quality. Well done Year 9!
Each year at BVIS we ensure that our Year 6 students are confident and fully prepared to make their move to Year 7.
On Thursday of last week, we welcomed the current Year 6 students and our new starters for next year into the Secondary school for our annual Transition Day. The students spent the day meeting their new classmates and teachers, exploring the Secondary building and taking part in fun house-based activities. A great time was had by all and both students and teachers are looking forward to meeting again in August.
On Wednesday of this week we held our Debate Day. This is one of the most important days of the year for students to develop their English, both speaking and listening. They engage in a series of formal debates and must propose the arguments for or against a motion and then rebut the arguments of the opposing team.
All students need to be able to work as a team, think quickly on their feet and be able to present to an audience in English. This is a difficult challenge and they worked extremely hard to produce some great performances.
