Our Year 4 children spent the day using their imagination to become ‘Explorers’!

The Year 4 children started the new term  with a day of immersing themselves into their new topic. The children spent the day using their imagination to become ‘Explorers’ for the day. The Entry Point immediately engaged the children and allowed them to develop connections with future learning.

Before the day began, the children mind mapped their current understanding of everything they knew related to the topic. In addition, the classes discussed what they wanted to learn this term and asked meaningful questions.

Our goal was for the children to gain an understanding of what life was like for an explorer during their adventures. The children dressed up as explorers and bought with them any accessories explorers may need during a great voyage.

Throughout the morning and into the early afternoon, the children took part in a carousel of activities where they adventured into four different habitats where famous explorers have visited. (This tied in with our Science topic of ‘Habitats’) The children visited: the rainforest, space, under the sea and into the heat of the desert. In each habitat, the children learnt information about famous explorers who had visited these places and they used their imagination to envision what it would have felt like for the explorers.

They had a fantastic day, as you can see in the photos, and they now look forward to learning more about explorers and adventurers!
