Term 2 Reflections

Throughout the term, our students and their teachers have continued to demonstrate their abilities to go ‘beyond the reach’ and push the boundaries of our unique, bilingual, internationally focused learning. They have both shown a positive resilience during a period of online learning and a determination to return stronger, well prepared and most definitely proud to be part of our school.

On behalf of all our teaching, support and admin staff, I would like to thank you for your continued support, encouragement and feedback of our school community and wish you all a very relaxing and well-deserved holiday. We look forward to seeing all students back in school on Monday 26th April.

Year 3 Sleepover

On Thursday after school, our Year 3 children stayed and continued with the adventures planned for them by their teachers.  The sleepover was filled with fun and games for our youngest children who join residentials each year.  The day began with children arriving with their overnight bags in tow, along with their teddy bears to snuggle up to as they bedded down for the night in the sports hall.

These events are invaluable for our children’s holistic development. Their independence, bravery and perseverance are challenged with these experiences, developing our children’s characters for the better.  Thank you for all the support that parents and teachers have given to these experiences for our Years 3 to 5 children over the past term.  Year 6’s ‘Big Night In’ is scheduled for Thursday 6th May.

Aladdin Trouble - Year 4 Production

Aladdin Trouble left us all smiling from ear to ear on our last day of Term 2. The performance was magnificent; a truly magical show where our Year 4 children gave everything to become outstanding characters on stage.  They have been rehearsing for several weeks prior to the final and this hard work really did pay off.  Well done and congratulations to the Year 4 children and the teaching team behind the action.  Thank you to our parents for supporting the children in learning their lines and lyrics, in helping to put together their costumes, and most of all, in being part of the audience for the final performance – what a treat it was for us all to welcome you in to watch the show!

Looking ahead to Term 3

As we approach the holiday, I would like to thank all families for their support with the children’s learning and development at home. Having had the recent opportunity to meet with your child’s class teachers, you will now have new ideas of your child’s targets until the end of this academic year and how to help these develop at home. I would encourage you to take some time over the holidays to talk these areas through with your child, support them in their home learning and most of all read with your child every day for at least 20 minutes. Reading together with your child in either Vietnamese, English (or both) has so many benefits.  It supports language development, imagination, creativity, concentration, and it also develops children personally, socially and emotionally as they spend time sharing a book with those close to them.

I will leave you with this key message for the holidays, ‘Read, Read, Read’ together with your child!

Humanities

This week Year 7 have been creating their own earthquake proof buildings. They have already learnt about the key features of these buildings and were then tasked with creating their own. Some interesting designs were created and then the earthquake hit! Only a few survived but it was an enjoyable lesson for all.

Battle of the Bands 2021!

On Saturday 10th April our Year 12 and 13 band ‘The Darrows’ took part in a fantastic Battle of the Bands competition involving 6 international schools in HCMC. Each band performed 2 songs to a live audience and 3 guest judges. In true bilingual style, ‘The Darrows’ performed one song in Vietnamese (Nứt - Ngọt ) and one in English (Bad Romance -Lady Gaga). Their performances were full of energy, passion, excitement and had the audience all singing along!

At the end of the event the results came in and ‘The Darrows ‘won second place in the competition! An incredible achievement for a fantastic band and the first time BVIS has been involved in this HCMC competition! Well done The Darrows!
