Mr. Simon Higham, Principal
I would like to welcome all of our BVIS community back to school for Term 3 and in particular, welcome all of our new families who have recently joined our school family.
The Essence of a Great School
In my view, the essence of a great school lies with the people who are part of it and no one part is more important than the other, nor can one flourish without the other. Great teachers cannot function effectively without the support of great parents, students, TAs and Administrative staff. Additionally, our school building cannot be optimised to its full potential without those who look after it with care and consideration. We all look forward to further developing our partnerships over this final term to make our school stronger, happier and more effective that it has ever been before.
Although it is people who really make the difference to our children’s quality learning, we understand that we must continually develop and refresh the physical environment too. Over the holiday break, we have again made some significant upgrades to our campus and these developments are listed below:
Following the extensive upgrade to the Secondary section of our school library during the end of Term 1, we are pleased to report that the Primary upgrades are now well underway. Additional shelving for our 60,000+ books has been installed, together with a new seating and stage area for our younger readers. We have also added brand new furniture to allow additional learning spaces for when classes visit. Over the next few weekends, we will also be updating the entrances to each side of the library.
STEAM Room (Whole School)
To further strengthen and utilise our partnership with MIT, we have installed a new practical STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) area that will allow students to develop transferable skills such as creativity, curiosity, resilience, resourcefulness, collaboration and confidence through practical, hands-on problem solving.
Fitness Suite (Whole School)
As part of our commitment to the wellbeing of both students and staff, we have installed the first phase of what will become our new fitness suite. Accessible to our older students as part of their core and examination PE provision, this new provision will help to develop personal fitness levels and ensure that a healthy body complements a healthy mind.
Changing Rooms in Creative Arts (Whole School)
Following feedback from our students, we have now developed both male and female changing areas for dance and drama lessons that are situated on the 3rd Floor, opposite the Dance Studio.
Sports Hall Upgrade (Whole School)
Improved whole school indoor sports facilities both inside and outside of the Sports Hall has created additional curriculum information, badminton courts and more effective playing areas for all age ranges to use during curriculum time, clubs and squad fixtures.
Of course, resources such as these do not necessarily make a great school, but they certainly help to enhance it. Please be assured that we continue to action improvements based upon our future forward planning and from the feedback received from students, teachers and parents in order to develop the opportunities for learning across the whole of our school community.
