Student Health & Wellbeing

Our Wellbeing programme gives our students access to a full range of activities and resources designed to keep their minds and bodies healthy, particularly while studying from home in a virtual school environment. This approach also enables social, physical, and psychological empowerment so that our students not only enjoy the great moments in life, but also develop resilience to ‘bounce back’ in times of adversity.

At BVIS we want our students to truly flourish. We believe that a great education balances academic outcomes, character development and student wellbeing. Our wellbeing strategy at BVIS enables students to:

  • Feel good and function effectively.

  • Have the skills to respond to challenges and setbacks.

  • Have a positive sense of self and connection with others and the wider world.

  • Be safe and nurtured while in school.

Using age-appropriate approaches, students achieve this through engaging with the UK government’s 5 ways to wellbeing:

  • Connecting and communicating with others in school, home and the wider community.

  • Being active and engaged in sport and physical activities.

  • Learning in and beyond the classroom and academic curriculum.

  • Doing things for other people.

  • Taking notice of the world around them and how they are feeling.

Our Wellbeing programme gives our students access to a full range of activities and resources designed to keep their minds and bodies healthy, particularly while studying from home in a virtual school environment. This approach also enables social, physical, and psychological empowerment so that our students not only enjoy the great moments in life but also develop resilience to ‘bounce back’ in times of adversity.

BVIS HCMC Student Wellbeing

Pastoral Care

Central to developing wellbeing is our model of Pastoral Care. The quality of the relationships between students and teachers is very strong.  Each student is assigned to a class teacher (in Early Years and Primary) or a form tutor (Secondary) whose responsibility it is to monitor their academic development, advise on opportunities beyond the classroom and encourage wellbeing. These teachers are supported by phase leaders, heads of house, a school counsellor and a senior leadership team committed to each student’s individual development.

Safety and Security

BVIS has a strong commitment to the safety and security of all our students. Staff and students regularly practice fire evacuation and lockdown drills. We also undertake regular health and safety audits which are externally assessed by Nord Anglia Education to ensure that BVIS continues to meet international health and safety expectations linked to all members of our BVIS community. The campus is walled and gated, with strictly controlled access to the site.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

Safeguarding is about protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of students to enable them to a live free from abuse, harm and neglect, including bullying. BVIS is committed to the highest standards in safeguarding and all staff receive regular training.  Full details of the BVIS approach may be found in our safeguarding and child protection policy.  All concerns are taken seriously and acted upon, whether reported by students, staff, parents, or other members of our school community.
