Danny's Photo is the Judges Choice!

Danny (MYP 4) photograph was the Judges Choice in the recent Global Classroom Focus on Photography Calendar Competition.

We were delighted to announce that Danny (MYP 4) was the Global Classroom Judge’s Choice in the ‘Focus on Photography’ calendar competition. Danny’s photos was chosen from more than 200 entries from students who attend Nord Anglia Education schools around the world.

The theme was to capture ‘Adventure’ in innovative and creative ways. Subjects included nature, family and friends, architecture and landscapes.

The photo is one Danny snapped with an iPhone while he was out for a run.  The title of the photo is ‘Slug’ and the caption is ‘Miles of land, far as the eye can see, of adventure and a new beginning…’

‘I just saw the slug and it got me thinking of the slug's eye view and how different things look from there.  It was perfect for me when thinking about how contextual adventure is.’ said Danny.

Thirteen images, taken by students, have been chosen by professional photographer and competition judge, David Fisher. David was looking for technical merit and expression of the theme and was very impressed by the standard of entries.

‘The standard of the student entrance was pleasingly high.  Many showed a technical skill of which any professional photographer would be proud. The winning photos stand out because they show a different view of the world with excellent execution and timing. It’s not always the unusual or special that makes a winning subject; it is the way subject is presented that can be interesting. My advice to all is to keep taking pictures as often as you can and to learn the key lessons of framing and exposure. That way you will continue to progress as photographers.’ he said.

Students were also able to vote for their favourite image online and their top Choice was ‘Finding a new Flower’ by Bogdan Zyulkov.

The 14 winning images will feature in a printed calendar which will be available in schools in December but for a sneak preview of the winning entries please click here
