Person specification and requirements


  • Be a fully qualified primary or graduate teacher.
  • Be fluent in the school’s language of instruction (English).
  • Have a strong desire to work with pupils in the primary school.
  • A patient, caring and creative classroom practitioner.
  • Adhere to all school policies particularly those pertaining to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, SEN and Child Protection.


  • Have a good level of French; bilingual English-French being the ideal
  • Have an understanding of the English National Curriculum
  • Have an understanding of the International Primary Curriculum
  • Have experience of working within the Primary Years (pupils aged between 5-11)


Key tasks and responsibilities

The Primary teacher must:

  • Take responsibility for developing and implementing work schemes and lesson plans in line with the requirements of the curriculum and school policies;
  • To develop short, medium and long term plans in line with curriculum objectives;
  • Foster the understanding, social and communication skills of the pupils.
  • Have experience of and ensure rigorous assessment, both assessment for learning and assessment of learning; to provide effective and timely feedback to pupils;
  • Focus on and ensure high performance learning;
  • Facilitate learning by establishing effective relationships with pupils based on mutual respect;
  • Have a positive attitude, maintaining excellent discipline and highly effective classroom management;
  • To organise teaching and learning resources effectively;
  • To develop and organise the classroom learning environment effectively;
  • Be committed to achieving the highest possible standards for all pupils;
  • Be effective in meeting the needs of individual pupils and developing a differentiated approach to teaching and learning.
  • To link pupils' knowledge to earlier learning whilst developing ways to encourage it further;
  • To challenge, inspire and motivate pupils and help them to expand their knowledge and deepen their understanding.
  • Deliver the curriculum using a variety of teaching styles to meet the needs of a variety of learning styles.
  • Have the ability to use ICT in day-to-day teaching and enable ICT learning in the classroom.
  • Provide positive learning experiences which develop basic and developing communication skills, making effective use of IT and other materials to support the programme.


The teacher must also:

  • Attend staff meetings relevant to curriculum development.
  • Assist the pupils to become independent, life-long learners.
  • Communicate with parents and the school’s Senior Management Team and Assessment Team on pupil progress.
  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as part of the regular curricular and extra-curricular school programmes.
  • Participate in curriculum and other professional developmental programmes and maintain professional competence through in-service education and performance management activities.
  • Be a good communicator, organised and efficient.
  • Be enthusiastic, committed and highly motivated.
  • Have excellent organisational skills.


Other responsibilities

  • All staff are required to manage effective personal development as part of the Company’s commitment to invest in staff as the key resource in the organisation.
  • Each individual must ensure that they meet their statutory responsibilities and Company policies with regard to Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and other relevant legislation.
