Scope and purpose of the job

In order to fill this role effectively, the successful candidate will need to have a diverse range of qualities, competencies and experience.  An LCIS teacher should be an inspirational, passionate and adaptable educator and a creative and innovative curriculum leader. He/She should be an outstanding motivator, learner, administrator and communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills, and should be capable of preparing students for International Baccalaureate programmes in a stimulating, challenging and well-organised learning environment.

He/She should be able to provide high quality teaching and learning, make effective use of resources, and ensure improved standards of achievement for all students.  He/She should be flexible, creative and innovative and should be able to collaborate with colleagues in school and with colleagues across the Nord Anglia Education network of schools.



  • Collaborate in the design, development and implementation of the English A programme.
  • Deliver the teaching and learning of English throughout the secondary school effectively.
  • Maintain assessment systems, reporting and record-keeping systems for students.
  • Administer rewards, sanctions and safety policies and procedures relating to students.
  • Take part in professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to a programme of trips, excursions and fieldtrips.
  • Contribute to a programme of extra-curricular activities.
  • Develop a positive attitude towards their subject in the school and wider community through cooperative relations, publications, competitions etc.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Head of Department and other working groups.

He/She should:

  • Possess excellent communication skills and be willing to adapt to the demands of an international school, in particular he/she should be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Support the development of their subject area.
  • Have the ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload.
  • Provide support and guidance for students in academic and pastoral matters.
  • Be able to inspire mixed culture and ability classes using a variety of styles to create appropriate learning opportunities for all students.
  • Have a high level of understanding of current research as to how children learn and possess the ability to motivate colleagues and students to perform at their best.
  • Be accomplished in the delivery of English A International Baccalaureate Diploma courses or similar.
  • Have a high level of awareness of current developments and research findings in education pertaining to their subject areas.


General responsibilities

Qualifications and experience:

  • Qualified teacher status and degree appropriate to the teaching duties to be undertaken.
  • Experience of teaching the full range of Secondary English
  • Knowledge and proven experience of teaching English at IB Diploma and MYP level.
  • Ability to teach other areas such as ‘TOK’ would be an advantage.
  • Native English speaker.
