My name is Maria Cottam and I am delighted to be joining La CÔte International School as a Teacher of Mathematics in August 2018. I started my own education at Queen Mary College, University of London, completing a BSc in Mathematics and I consider myself to be a positive and proactive person with a highly-successful background teaching in international schools.
I am constantly looking for new challenges and new ways to develop my professional and personal skills. Therefore, I am confident that moving to LCIS and becoming a member of the Nord Anglia team will give me further opportunities to develop my Mathematics teaching, my lifestyle and hopefully even my French language skills. I am really looking forward to working with the IB curriculum and am committed to continuing to positively impact the learning of the students I teach.
In addition to my classroom work, I have been actively involved with many diverse extra-curricular activities over the years, including the position of ‘Co-ordinator of The House System’ for a three-year period. I am actively involved in the life of the school through a varied and eclectic mix of activities, ranging from “The Doctor Who Appreciation Club”, organiser of the school chess club, choreographer and financial manager for school productions and social secretary of the staff welfare group.
I consider myself well-travelled and I have a keen insight into living and working in various world cultures. I taught Mathematics in The Bahamas for three years and have had a number of educational roles in the Middle East since 1999, working at The English College Dubai and The Supreme Education Council in Doha. I strive for excellence in all that I do and believe that international education is the key to producing the best future world leaders.
My health and fitness are of the utmost importance. I spend my social time taking tap and Lindy Hop dance classes and I am an active committee member of a social running club. All these activities I look forward to continuing in Switzerland as well as taking up new outdoor activities in the stunning landscape around Lake Geneva. You never know, cross country skiing could be my next challenge!
I am really looking forward to meeting everyone at the school and am excited about this new adventure.
