It was wonderful to conclude my two-day visit to The International School of Moscow with the Big Sing event at the Moscow House of Music. There were so many students and teachers demonstrating their passion for music and their desire to perform in a live environment which is what ABRSM is all about. On the basis of my visit, I am confident that the collaboration between ABRSM and the International School of Moscow to deliver practical music exams in Moscow in June 2020 will be a huge success.

On Thursday, the 26th of September, The International School of Moscow held 'The Big Sing' at the Moscow House of Music. It was a magnificent celebration of the UK-Russia Year of Music 2019 and the launch of the ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) practical examinations.

Our event featured a choir of students from several Moscow international schools, individual performances and a special guest speaker, Helen Coleman, Head of Global Operations at ABRSM, who joined us to share the love for music.

'The Big Sing' also celebrated the strong cultural and musical links between Russia and the UK, with the choir performing pieces by Russian composer Alexander Borodin and British choral composer John Rutter.

"With 2019 being the UK-Russia Year of Music, it was a great opportunity to get together with other international schools to celebrate singing and the strong musical and cultural links between the UK and Russia. The event would have not been a success were it not for the enthusiastic response received from Moscow music teachers, John Rutter CBE, ABRSM, students and parents Moscow-wide. With over 150 musicians and singers on stage, the event certainly lived up to its name," said James Langford, Head of Music at The International School of Moscow.

"’The Big Sing’ 2019 and the UK-Russia Year of Music have also helped us to raise awareness of ABRSM practical music exams which will launch for the first time in Russia at The International School of Moscow in June 2020."
