ISM Spelling Bee 2019 showcased the excellent spelling abilities of our students.

From the middle of November, ISM students from Years One to Six have been rehearsing common spelling patterns and graphemes for their specific year groups.

On the 29th of November, following three weeks of home-learning dedicated to practising these words, students on both Rosinka and Krylatskoe campuses wowed the audiences of students, teachers and parents by correctly reciting these words during our weekly assemblies. After intense battles, each campus crowned their respective winners in each year group who then progressed to The Grand Final.

On Monday the 9th of December, with excitement at fever-pitch, our twelve cross-campus finalists confidently strode onto the stage. Despite having around 250 sets of eager eyes fixed directly on them, they somehow managed to increase the already sky-high standards that they had previously set.

The entire Primary English team wish to congratulate Shanaya, Harshi, Gahyun, Derek, Malika and Yashvi on their impressive victories. As a reward for their efforts, all of the finalists will be taken on our end-of-year English trip to Fili Park.

Anticipation is already building for next year’s competition. This will, no doubt, lead to even more students becoming more fluent and confident spellers. All of the budding spellers in next year’s competition, heed the words of the famous English author, Terry Pratchett, who said: “Let grammar, punctuation, and spelling into your life! Even the most energetic and wonderful mess has to be turned into sentences.”
