In both Primary and Secondary, Global Campus has seen ISM’s students participate in a wealth of activities this year, with many having engaged in competitions and other learning opportunities on Nord Anglia’s online platform.
As part of our collaboration with MIT, children across all of our campuses have been able to take part in a range of exciting STEAM pursuits, for example the annual ‘Hacking Challenge’ enabled children to consider how everyday items could be reinvented using the ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ approach. This year’s entries saw everything from a dartboard clock to a self-watering plant pot.
Across our school, many students also entered the UNICEF Visual Arts Competition as a project-based home learning option. This year, the task was to illustrate their understanding of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), a topic frequently revisited in our PSHE lessons as well as the central theme for World Children’s Day.
Congratulations once again to David in Year 2 for receiving ‘highly commended’ recognition from UNICEF’s own judges for his excellent 3D work of art.
With regard to the written word, we also saw a range of entries for this year’s Creative Writing and Comic Book competitions. Our gifted students were tasked with articulating what ‘home’ means to them, as well as highlighting their thoughts on the UN’s Rights of the Child.
In Secondary, ‘Ask the Artist’ provided ISM’s students with the chance to ask famous actors, musicians and dancers their own questions as part of Nord Anglia’s Juilliard collaboration. This year’s personalities included actor James Davis, musicians Colin and Eric Jacobsen, and dancer Miranda Quinn. This has enabled many of our students to consider what a life in the performing arts might look like, as well as providing an insight into how to get there.
As well as engaging in a wealth of competitions, many of our students have now enrolled on Nord Anglia’s Student Journalism course, which promises to further foster the writing skills of our budding reporters. We look forward to the rest of the academic year as the newest addition ‘Global Xtra’ continues to see yet further engagement from our students.
