Meet our highly-qualified Primary faculty
Primary Teacher
Sophie joins the NAS Jakarta team from Brisbane, Australia. She has a Bachelor Degree in Primary Education from the Queensland University with a major in Special Education Support. She is also a qualified Graphic Designer who has graduated from Shillington College, Australia. Her approach to teaching is inextricably linked to the passion she has for traveling and for art and design. Sophie thrives on creating hands-on, diverse and globally relevant learning experiences to engage and inspire children preparing them to be the best they can be beyond the classroom.

Gerald first graduated in History from University of Wales, Aberystwth, before beginning his teaching career as an English language teacher in Depok, Jakarta. He earned his PGCE at Goldsmith’s university and after completing his qualifying year returned to Indonesia. He joins from Bina Nusantara Simprug, where he taught in upper-primary for two years.
Emma Gibb has a PGCE in Primary Education from the University of Leeds, England. She joins NAS Jakarta from Cranleigh School, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, where she was teaching in Year 1 and coordinating Key Stage One Maths. Emma has been teaching internationally for the last fifteen years and is really excited to join NAS Jakarta.
Primary Years
In 2014, Melissa graduated from University of the West of England with a BA (Hons) in Primary Education. Melissa joined NAS Jakarta in March 2020 experience in two outstanding UK primary schools. Melissa has taught in both Key Stages and held subject responsibilities for humanities, science and most recently, maths.
Heather McKay is truly an international teacher. Born and brought up in Canada, she studied in the UK, gaining her Teaching Degree from the University of Glasgow before teaching in Egypt and then Kenya. She is excited to be joining NAS Jakarta from Braeburn School in Nairobi, Kenya.
Alf earned his teaching degree at the University of the West of England, Bristol, where he also graduated with his first degree, in Sociology. He joins NAS Jakarta in 2019 from Charter International School in Bangkok, where he was a teacher and Key Stage 2 coordinator.
Gina Starkey has a teaching degree from Lancaster University. She has spent the last 16 years teaching at the International School of the Hague. This school is also an IPC (International Primary Curriculum) school and Gina has been involved with the coordinating of the IPC curriculum for the last 5 years.
Louise Hudson has a Teaching Degree from the University of Brighton, England. She will join NAS Jakarta in August 2019 from Mile Oak Primary School, England, where she is a teacher and Early Years and Key Stage One music co-ordinator. Louise has previously worked at the International School of Breda, Netherlands. She is looking forward to working internationally again at the NAS Jakarta and becoming part of the NAE family.
