Dear Parents,

Welcome to our new Academic Year!

I hope that all families have had a great summer break and are ready for the year that is ahead for us all.

In preparation for that, as we look forward to the start of a new school year, there are several simple ways families can help children feel confident, settled, and ready to learn.

In the days ahead, re-establish regular routines, including consistent bedtimes and morning schedules. Children should be encouraged to pack their own bags, get ready for bed and get a lot of sleep, particularly, in the early stages of getting back to school. The morning routines should be clear and consistent, as much as possible, so that children know what is happening.

Throughout the week, encourage children to talk about their hopes, questions, or any worries they may have about returning to school. Listening calmly and positively can help build confidence and reduce anxiety. It is important that you build those conversations into your routines early, so that becomes the norm and sets the standards you hope to keep within your family.

Practical preparation is also important. Ensure uniforms, books, devices, and other essential items are organised each day before school; remember they should all be labelled with your child’s name and class. Creating a quiet space at home for reading and learning can reinforce positive habits from the outset.

Most importantly, focus on a positive mindset. Celebrate the opportunities a new year brings new friendships, new experiences, and new learning. Remind your child that growth comes from effort, perseverance, and a willingness to try something new.

Finally, I wanted to share that when I asked our new families, ‘how did your favourite teacher make you feel at school?’ they replied with the below:

I wanted to share that our day-to-day practice focuses on teaching strategies that will support your children to feel this way about their school.

In doing so, we want to build the strong sense of psychological safety, connection and belonging that will help our children to thrive throughout the year.

Take care,
