Secondary Student Leadership Updates:
The Secondary Student Leadership Programme commenced at the start of the year, welcoming not only our seasoned student leaders but also those keen to cultivate their leadership potential. Applicants reflected thoughtfully on their personal strengths and put forward imaginative ideas for cross-phase community initiatives before engaging in interviews with Mr. Mapfuwa. From these insightful discussions, eleven students were selected across five year groups. Throughout the process, students’ dedication and enthusiasm exemplified our core values: consideration, through commitment to positively impacting others; creativity, in innovative projects proposed; and confidence, by embracing opportunities to develop as leaders within our school community.
Seven students who completed last year’s Student Leadership Programme successfully stepped forward once again, this time as Student Leadership Mentors. After a reflective interview process with Mr. Siccardi, exploring their individual strengths, areas for growth, and strategies for continued development, they are now poised to work closely with Mr. Mapfuwa and the Senior Leadership Team in supporting this year’s emerging student leaders. Their willingness to guide others while further developing their own leadership skills exemplifies our shared values of consideration, through their commitment to nurture peers; creativity, as they help shape new leadership initiatives; and confidence, as they embrace the challenge of mentoring with purpose and poise.
Primary Student Leadership Updates:
This term has seen an inspiring display of leadership and community spirit across the Primary School. Student Council elections took place in every class from Year 1 to Year 6, with candidates confidently presenting their ideas on how they would represent their peers and contribute positively to school life. From Year 6, two Head Students were selected through a formal election process involving peers, teachers, and Mr. Thompson, following thoughtful written applications and compelling presentations showcasing their leadership qualities and aspirations. Meanwhile, an impressive number of students from Years 4 to 6 volunteered to become Play Pals, demonstrating consideration through their commitment to fostering kindness and inclusion, creativity in developing engaging playground activities, and confidence as they take on meaningful roles that strengthen the sense of community across the school.
Our newly appointed School Council, Head Students, and Play Pals have now begun their important roles, each contributing to the life of the Primary School in meaningful ways. The School Council meets weekly to discuss student feedback, celebrate successes, and share creative ideas for improving school life, ensuring every student’s voice is heard. Our Head Students will help lead these meetings and work closely with the Head of Primary and Assistant Head Teachers, serving as confident role models during assemblies, events and school visits. Meanwhile, our dedicated Play Pals have started their duties on the playground, showing consideration by supporting peers and promoting inclusion, creativity by teaching new games and keeping playtimes engaging, and confidence as they take initiative to ensure every child feels valued and included.
Together, these Primary and Secondary initiatives form a cohesive and continuous Student Leadership Pathway, designed to nurture growth, responsibility, and collaboration across all stages of school life. From our youngest pupils taking their first steps as Play Pals and Student Councillors to our older students leading community projects and mentoring their peers, each stage builds upon the last, developing the same core values of Consideration, Creativity, and Confidence in age-appropriate and meaningful ways. This unified approach ensures that leadership at our school is not a single moment or title, but an evolving journey, one that empowers every student to contribute, reflect, and lead with purpose within our shared community.
