Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a unique subject that not only equips Northbridge International School Cambodia students with critical thinking skills but also fosters a deeper understanding of the world around them. Held every year on 21 February, International Mother Language Day is observed worldwide - including here at Northbridge International School Cambodia - to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The theme for this year is “Multilingual education is a pillar of intergenerational learning.”

As parents, we all want the very best for our children and their education. We strive to provide them with the tools and strategies that will empower them to navigate the challenges of learning and excel in their academic endeavors. Nevertheless, to thrive in life and prepare them for an uncertain future, it is imperative that Northbridge International School Cambodia students acquire knowledge beyond mere academics.

Northbridge International School Cambodia has embraced a program in Early Learning to Grade Two that focuses on those first steps to reading – unlocking the phonetic code to the English language. Teachers and Teaching Assistants in Early Learning 4 , KG, Grade One and Grade Two are working with students every day for up to 30 minutes to develop student’s decoding skills. These skills are foundational to the reading process.

As the Head of Primary at Northbridge International School Cambodia, I am excited to reflect on this terms implementation and share with you the benefits of our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) in education.

Digital learning applications (or apps) are a form of online education software that aim to teach children with the aid of digital technology. At Northbridge International School Cambodia, we use digital learning apps as a vehicle for student inquiry, and carefully curate which digital platforms are used in classrooms to enhance learning.

Academic integrity is a fundamental aspect of education at Northbridge International School Cambodia, and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) tools has raised concerns about maintaining ethical and moral standards.

At Northbridge International School Cambodia, our skills for English learning start early when we listen to our families and teachers speak in English.  We hear the sounds (phonetics) that culminate in the English language – words, sentences, and types of texts where we put sentences together for different purposes.

As a teacher with a background in information communications technology, I understand why it is easy to feel left behind – Web 3.0, NFTs , the metaverse, hyperautomation, extended reality, gamification, augmented reality, quantum computing, “Internet of things" ... even if you have heard of some of these words, how many people really know what they are or what their potential is? And while the “distributed cloud” sounds like a rainy day at Northbridge International School Cambodia, it really has nothing to do with the weather.

I always believe that our main role as teachers at Northbridge International School Cambodia is to guide our students towards the best version of themselves.
