Well done to all of our students who participated in the end of term Christmas Concerts and celebrations. The music teachers are very proud of our talented performers for all their efforts in making the concerts such a success. Well done everyone!

Juilliard Core Works

As part of the Juilliard-Nord Anglia performing arts programme, the children will be learning about 12 Core Works in their music lessons. Each month we will feature a Core Work here in the newsletter to share these wonderful pieces of work with you.

Music of the Month

This month, we would like to introduce you to Sean Shepherd, a modern day composer from the USA.

"An exciting composer of the new American generation" (New York Times), Sean Shepherd has garnered admiration and return engagements with major ensembles and performers across the US and Europe. His works have been performed by the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, the National, Chicago, BBC, and New World symphony orchestras and such leading European ensembles as Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin, the Asko|Schönberg Ensemble, and the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. Additionally, his music has been programmed at festivals in Aldeburgh, Cabrillo, Heidelberg, La Jolla, Lucerne, Santa Fe, and Tanglewood.

The piece that our Year 2 children will explore this term, Tuolumne, was inspired by the American photographer, Ansel Adams. The first movement of this orchestral piece explores the journey of water as it pours across a rock.

Throughout the year, there will be webinars and opportunities for our students to ask questions and engage with Sean Shepherd. This program will provide a window into the music, influences, challenges, and motivations of the contemporary composer.
