Word Mania

Over the last few weeks the KS2 students have been busily competing in the Word Mania challenge. This is a global competition in which the students compete to earn as many points as they can by building words made up of letters from a random grid. This has been a fantastic event as the teachers have watched the children enthusiastically get involved and have also seen the positive effect of the game on the children’s spelling and confidence in word building.

The competition ran over three weeks, with a leaderboard determining which schools made it through to the next round in each year group. We were very lucky in KS2 to have 3 year groups making it into the final round last week. After some furious finger work, committed concentration and wonderful word play we ended up with Years 3 & 6 finishing in a more than respectable 4th spot in the world and Year 4 finishing in an amazing 3rd place globally. The Year 4 students have won some fantastic prizes for their efforts, including school supplies, a trophy and the knowledge that they are the 3rd best word builders in the work in this competition. Mrs Leanne, our Literacy Coordinator, will be also awarding house points to the top word builders in each each year group.

Christmas Trees & Boxes

Keep an eye out on Friday as St Andrews is transformed into a winter wonderland as Christmas trees will be appearing around the campus with the help of the PTG.

As always, in KS2 we will be collecting and donating Christmas boxes, which will be donated to the Bangkok Refugee Centre. This is a chance to make a small gift make a big difference to a child’s life at this happy time of year. We ask that you send in a box filled (shoe box sized) filled with small gifts and useful items that will go a long way to helping a child enjoy their Christmas, even if their family is facing the difficulty of living as refugees in a strange land.

The boxes could include: small toys, toiletries, books, underwear, etc. When you have filled and wrapped your box, please make sure it is clearly labelled. The label should include who it’s for- boy or girl- and which age group the box is suitable for. Boxes can be left under the Christmas tree in the school office from Monday 4th December.

The NAE Games are here

This weekend we will be hosting the NAE SEA Games at the High School Campus and at Ramkamhaeng University. While only a selection of students will be taking part, we would love to have a big crowd of support for our teams which will hopefully be made up of parents, fellow students and teachers- all to give a big STA cheer on their way to hopeful victory. This will be a fantastic opportunity for aspiring tee-ball and basketball players to come along and see what they could be involved in in the future. Any questions about the event should be directed to Mr Damon: damon.se@standrews.ac.th.
