Sport: Footballers battle it out in Phuket

Our Flames footballers made us proud in Phuket, our basketballers rule the courts and our Primary NAE Games athletes put the finishing touches to their training...Get all the updates on our Primary and High School sports teams, as well as upcoming events.

St Andrews Sports Camp

We’re very excited to announce that in December and January, we’ll be hosting our first St Andrews holiday sports camp, a multi-sport camp running for two weeks during the Christmas holiday. This will be run in conjunction with Bangkok Soccer Schools and will feature a mix of activities for our Primary children to enjoy.

More details to follow by email.

Primary School Sport

Well done to all the children that participated at the Phuket 7s Tournament. It was a great weekend of football with our teams showing their high level of performance against the best teams in Asia. Now we move onto the countdown to the NAE Games from 1st -3rd December. Best of luck to the children involved, they have worked so hard in training and are looking ready to perform and enjoy the weekend.

What a great trip we all had the Phuket Soccer 7s tournament. Each year the tournament gets bigger and the competition gets more intense.  We took our first ever Primary girls team and they were a credit to STA. The U11 Girls reached the quarterfinals and were knocked out on penalties after conceding just 2 goals in 6 games. The U9 Boys only conceded 1 goal in their whole tournament but unfortunately, that goal knocked them out in the semi final. They won their third place final 6-0. Our U11 Boys reached the final of the Plate competition, losing 3-2 but nearly completed an amazing come back. All our teams showed such great team spirit and togetherness to try to achieve their highest placing. Thank you to the STA parents that traveled to Phuket to support the team's and a massive thank you to Mr Graeme and the office staff for his hard work organising the trip.

1127 sport 8

Our U8 Tennis players played in the ISB Red Bull tennis tournament on Sunday. This was a great experience for them to enjoy playing in competitive games against other schools. The children had a great time and it is fantastic to see so many of our Primary children developing their tennis.

For those parents who are not aware of the Primary FOBISIA Games, it is a 3-day sports tournament including swimming, athletics, teeball and football. The dates for the Games are 4 - 8 June, 2018 and will take place in Phuket. It is the biggest tournament of the year for the Primary team and training will start on the first week back in Term 2.

Sign ups for the Games will happen on Thursday 30th November in the Sports Hall at 12.45pm.

If selected training will be on a Wednesday for teeball and Friday for Athletics, alongside their usual football and swimming training they already do. Once selected the children’s parents will be sent a schedule of the training days and times.

It is not an easy process for the Primary PE team to select the children, but we will look at the strongest athletes we have across Years 4, 5 and 6. The team is made up of 10 girls and 10 boys from Year 4/5 and 10 girls and 10 boys from Year 6. We will look at their athletics performance from cross country results (scores we also have from our athletics lessons), results of our BISAC athletics meet, football performance in tournaments and fixtures played so far this year and teeball from NAE Games and also lessons. Plus we will sit down with the swim team to highlight our strongest swimmers.

If you would like your child to sign up for the Games please remind them of the sign up date and time.

High School Sport

Phuket Soccer 7s

Our U13 and Senior teams traveled to Phuket on Thursday for the annual 7s tournament. All three High School teams did remarkably well at this very tough competition, with the U13 Boys losing out on penalties in the semi-finals against the eventual winners. STA were the only team not to be well-beaten by them.

The Senior Boys also reached the semis, losing narrowly and only conceding two goals in the whole tournament.

As ever, the Flames were commended for our style of play, always trying to play good passing football. Sometimes against physical teams we lose out, but we’re very proud that our players always endeavour to play beautiful football!

TISAC Basketball Tournament

The U15 Boys won the TISAC Tournament on Saturday. The standard of U15 basketball in this conference is sometimes very high, so it’s good to see our boys being so successful. It was their third trophy of the season, bringing our tally to eight so far. There are plenty more tournaments to come, so we look ahead to the following:

  • The Flames U15 3on3 Invitational Tournament, STA, February 2018;

  • The U13 FOBISIA Games Basketball Tournament;

  • The Phuket 3on3 Festival (U15 and U13).

In the meantime, the U15s and Seniors are in action again this week, taking on their final TISAC games as well as some BISAC friendlies.

And this weekend, we host the NAE Primary Games at our High School campus, where we hope our Flames U11 teams will do us all proud!

Saturday Basketball Tournaments

On Saturday, 9 December, we’ll have our end-of-term 5v5 tournaments for the Saturday Club & Flames Basketball Academy. Please be aware of changes to the regular sessions - and most ballers will need to attend for the whole morning.

  • Saturday Club Y3 & 4: 8.00-9.00am 3on3 tournament (mixed teams)
  • Saturday Club Y5 & 6 + U11 Flames: 9.00am-12.00pm 5v5 tournament (mixed teams)
  • Saturday Club Y7 & 8 + U13 Flames: 9.00am-12.00pm 5v5 tournament (girls/boys divisions)
  • Saturday Club Y9 & 10 + U15 Flames: 9.00am-12.00pm 5v5 tournament (girls/boys divisions)

Normal sessions will not run.

Please complete the survey if you haven’t already done so and check your inbox for more details soon.

Our STA Flames Tennis team enjoyed some friendly, but competitive matches against other BISAC schools last Friday in preparation for the upcoming FOBISIA tennis tournament in Penang, Malaysia on the 8th - 10th December.  This was a great opportunity for our players to build up some match toughness, but also to have fun and get to know their fellow tennis players from other schools.
