On Wednesday and Thursday this week, the Art department took Year 9 Art students to the Ancient City, or Muang Boran, at Samut Prakan. The purpose of the trip was to gather visual resources for their current project. Year 9 have been studying the art and techniques of the Surrealist movement and will soon start to plan ideas for a surreal composition, using watercolour paint. They will use their drawings and photographs to help create backgrounds, as well as using buildings and structures to demonstrate the ‘verist’ surrealist technique of portmanteau. This means that they will bring their buildings to life by combining them with other objects to create unexpected and strange juxtapositions and metamorphoses. Teachers who attended the trip commented on how exemplary the behaviour of our young adults was. We were very proud indeed of the way they engaged with the work and environment.
