Geography is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13. August 2017 will be a very exciting time to join St Andrews, as we open our new 11-18 Campus.
Geography is taught to all students in Key Stage 3, with schemes of work based on the National Curriculum, but adapted to reflect both the international of our students and our location in Bangkok, at the centre of South-East Asia.
At Key Stages 4, most students choose to study at least one Humanities subject, chosen from Geography, Business Studies, Economics, History and Psychology, with many students choosing to study two or three. These subjects then continue into Key Stage 5, where all subjects are offered at both Higher and Standard Levels as part of the IB Diploma Programme. Experience teaching IGCSE and/or IB Geography would be a significant advantage, as would the ability to also teach History in Key Stage 3 and/or the ability to contribute to the teaching of one of these other Humanities subjects or Theory of Knowledge.
At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. All Humanities classrooms have data projectors, interactive whiteboards and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with laptop carts, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required. As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.
