St Andrews is very proud of the range of languages offered to our students, and are now planning on introducing Korean. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 3 to Year 13. August 2017 will be a very exciting time to join St Andrews, as we open our new 11-18 Campus.
Korean would be taught as a first language for those children who are native speakers, following a curriculum differentiated for the individuals in the small groups that are taught in each year. The curriculum should focus on the development of the whole language, including speaking, reading, listening and writing, especially grammar. It is designed so that, with their parents’ support, children with fluent Korean or a high competence in the language will continue to develop this strength, and continue on to study IGCSE Korean First Language and Korean A in the IB Diploma Programme.
All students from Year 3 onwards also choose an MFL from French, Spanish or Mandarin and continue with their chosen language until the end of Year 9, when they can then opt to study languages at IGCSE. All Key Stage 5 students have to study two Language or Literature subjects in the IB Diploma Programme, with students who have studied a language at IGCSE choosing to study it as a Language B, while those students who have not studied a language at IGCSE can choose to study Ab Initio.
The ideal candidate will have the experience, and flexibility, to teach Korean to students from across the full age-range of the school, including to IGCSE and IBDP students. Previous experience of teaching these courses will be a significant advantage.

Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. All Languages classrooms have data projectors, interactive whiteboards and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with laptop carts, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required. As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.
