Developing Textiles Practice in St. Andrews Art Department
We are delighted to introduce local designer and textiles expert Sunderta Kaur, who has been working with Year 12 IB Visual Arts students. Sunderta is a highly experienced professional, who has worked in the fashion and textiles industry for over 20 years.
She will be delivering several workshops this term, focusing on art and design practice, marketing and sustainability in the clothing and textiles industry. Our students will be looking at how fabrics are chosen, fashion drawing, draping and construction of garments. This will give our young artists yet another perspective of the breadth of areas of study available to them within the sphere of Art and Design at University level.
Over the course of year 12, students have gained good insight into several creative industries, such as textiles and photography, two areas that we are hoping to develop. As part of the Art Department drive to raise the level of awareness of possible career paths, having guest teachers share their experience and having time to ‘ask the expert’ has been highly beneficial for our students’ development.
