Artists since the Renaissance have reflected on their own mortality, depicting a variety of objects to symbolize the transitory nature of life. Common elements of this genre were flowers, candles, timepieces, skeletons and skulls. Year 9 artists have been following in this tradition making some atmospheric tonal drawings of skulls. Our artists have taken the idea of creating dramatic imagery through contrasting like and dark and have developed a very accomplished body of work.
