Art: Year 9 Skullduggery

Year 9 artists have been reflecting on life and death with a set of remarkable tonal drawings.

11018 art 1

Artists since the Renaissance have reflected on their own mortality, depicting a variety of objects to symbolize the transitory nature of life. Common elements of this genre were flowers, candles, timepieces, skeletons and skulls. Year 9 artists have been following in this tradition making some atmospheric tonal drawings of skulls. Our artists have taken the idea of creating dramatic imagery through contrasting like and dark and have developed a very accomplished body of work. Artwork by Amie, Kat, Marcus, Pauline, Faith, Daisy, Anush, Somgene, Mena, Julie F., Mia, Julie G. and Nina.

Artist of the Week

This week our ‘Artist of the Week’ award goes to Talent in Year 9. Talent not only created a fantastic skull drawing, but also produced an atmospheric portrait of a young girl. Both pieces of work are dramatic and very creative. Well done.
