Primary School Sport: Second half whistle

Last half term was packed with sport at St Andrews International School Bangkok and this half-term promises more of the same.

Welcome back

I hope everyone has had a refreshing break and you are now ready for the action-packed sport programme in Term 1.2. It is one the busiest times of the year as we continue to try to offer as many opportunities to our children as possible.

All the children will be starting a new sport and in some cases several sports over the coming weeks. They will start to develop their understanding and skill levels across these sports. If your child does develop a passion for any sport please email me and we can see how they can get involved in our sports programme.

We are trying to develop many areas in Term 2 with added opportunities for our children in touch rugby, badminton, teeball and football. So there will be even more opportunities after the winter break.

During this half term we will be taking part in two international tournaments with the NAE Games in Cambodia and Phuket 7s Football, plus, we have more swim meets and our first athletics and gymnastics competitions of the year. Also, Miss Cherry will be taking our first ever STA Dance Team to their first competition in November.

Parent Reminder

One of things that our coaches/teachers love from our STA Parents is your constant support throughout the year of sport. There are many new children in our STA sports teams this year and we hope you have enjoyed seeing your children represent STA. With a busy period of sport coming up can I please remind parents that the only voice our children should be hearing is from the coach. Please encourage and enjoy the games but do not coach. We look forward to seeing you all over the busy period ahead.

Basketball

Before the half term break our basketball teams played several games. Firstly, it was our BISAC friendly games where we welcomed Patana for the first time. The boys’ game was high-paced and thrilling with the boys playing the best level I’ve seen from a U11 team. The boys should be very proud of their development, attitude and focus across these first 10 weeks of term. After the disappointment of the TISAC games in their previous game the girls played with real spirit and produced their best performance of the year clearly out-skilling the Patana girls. In the end both teams had clear victories and will go into the next games with great confidence.

Secondly, both our teams played in their TISAC league games and once again proved too strong for their opposition. With each game our children continue to get stronger and stronger. Thank you to the hard work of the coaches over the start of Term 1 and their drive and passion for developing our children.
