Primary School Sport: Reaching new heights

Updates on our sports ECAs at St Andrews International School Bangkok...Break time yoga sessions run by Ms Jen and Ms Jo are really putting our students in a relaxed and mindful state... Find out about the results of our TISAC basketball fixtures … The U11 Girls Cross Country team are really lapping the field...Our students have been successful in lots of other sporting competitions.

Sports ECAs

Our Sports ECA programme is now in full flow with some new and exciting challenges and activities for our children. We still have dance, swimming, gymnastics, badminton, football (with BSS) and basketball, but also we have added more tennis, plus rock climbing and touch rugby. If you would like anymore information about any of the sports in our ECA programme, please contact Mr Damon.

Yoga

We had a very relaxing end to the week thanks to the break time yoga sessions kindly provided by Ms Jo and Ms Jen. As always, the students were very keen to take part and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to stretch and strengthen their bodies and calm their minds.

Basketball

Our girls got off to a positive start last week with a hard earned win in their first TISAC fixture. Eventually, winning by 1 point. What really impressed me was the work ethic of the girls and also how the Year 6 supported the less experienced Year 5 in a really caring way. Coach Leo will be working with the girls all year and they will get stronger with more practice and game time.

Last Friday, 5 October, some of our U11 basketballers got the chance to go to Patana to play in their BISAC Invitational. These games are fast and furious with short games on smaller courts. We were only allowed to take 28 children (2 girls and 2 boys teams) and our children were brilliant as always. Our Girls Flames and Boys Blaze finishe the tournament undefeated. Well done to all the children competing for STA for the first time and thank you as always for the support of our STA parents.

BISAC X Country

There was some great news for the U11 Girls Cross Country team, who after a timing mix up was fixed, was eventually crowned BISAC 2018 U11 Girls Champions. Our girls have now won it 2 years in a row. This is an outstanding achievement. Thank you to all the children that ran last Sunday.

Pupil Achievement

We have many children across STA who continue to play sport and take on sporting challenges.  One sport that continues to grow is the triathlon and endurance events. At the weekend with had several children competing in BIKE ZONE Tri Dash Bangkok series.  The children swim 200m, bike 5km and then run 1.5km. One of our STA children, Gina, came in first place, scoring the most amount points over the 2018 season.
