Key Stage 2: Celebrating Loy Krathong and getting ready for Christmas

Loy Krathong was celebrated in style at St Andrews International School Bangkok and Christmas is just around the corner...Read on for more information on the Christmas Concerts and Christmas Fair, as well as how to book your parent/teacher consultation which will take place in January.

Reports and Parent Consultations

This year, we are making a slight change to the reporting cycle in KS2. Your children’s Term 1 reports will be available to download from Moodle on Friday 14 December. These reports focus on their general progress in their new year groups, as well as their progress in Maths and English. The parent consultations will take place on Tuesday 15 and Tuesday 22 January from 2.45 - 5.30 p.m. Parents are also welcome to schedule meetings outside of these times.

Loy Krathong

Last Thursday, the Primary School campus was looking very colourful as everyone arrived wearing their traditional Thai costumes to celebrate Loy Krathong at St Andrews International School Bangkok. The morning began with two fantastic assemblies led by the children. These told the story of Loy Krathong through a sketch and some beautiful dancing.

The children then returned to class to make their own Krathongs and Year 6 went down to lend a hand in Years 1 & 2. The children produced a variety of designs which they then took home to float later in the day with their families.

Christmas is coming...

It’s only three weeks away until the end of term, which means the KS2 students are busily practising their songs, musical pieces and dances to make sure that this year’s Christmas concerts are even bigger and better than before. We hope you can all come along on Wednesday 12 December - you will definitely leave filled with Christmas cheer. The first performance will take place at 1.30 p.m. and will be led by our Year 3 & Y4 children. This will be followed by the Christmas Fair from 2.30 p.m. until 3.45 p.m. At the fair, you will be able to play a variety of games which are being organised by the Y6 students, grab a bite to eat from one of our food vendors or get yourself some gifts from the other stalls. The afternoon will be rounded off with the Year 5 & 6 concert, which starts at 4.00 p.m.

Please note that parking and a shuttle bus service are available at MaxValu on Sukhumvit 71. This will run until 6.00 p.m. Parents can stamp their tickets to benefit from free parking for stays of over two hours. The parking stamp will be in the Main Office.

We’re happy to announce that today is the first day of our Christmas Box collection for the Bangkok Refugee Centre. The children who the centre helps often leave behind everything to escape war, persecution or extreme poverty. A small gift can make a big difference when you have nothing, so we ask everyone in our community to prepare a gift box, which will be delivered to the BRC in time for Christmas. KS2 families can leave their gifts under the Christmas Tree in the School Office.

The boxes could include: small toys, toiletries, books, underwear, etc. When you have filled and wrapped your box, please make sure it is clearly labelled. The label must include who it’s for - boy or girl - and which age group the box is suitable for. Boxes can be left under the Christmas tree in the School Office from Monday 26 November.

Word Mania

Word Mania is over for another year and the final results are in. The STA students have done an absolutely amazing job over the last few weeks. Fingers have been furiously tapping out words in a bid to be No. 1 in the word for each year group. It was really interesting to see the children’s ability to build words increase over the weeks in terms of speed and variety.

We are very happy to inform you of the final standings:

Year 3 - 2nd in the world!

Year 4 - 4th in the world!

Year 5 - 8th in the world!

Year 6 - 12th in the world!

What an amazing job of putting St Andrews International School Bangkok firmly on the Word Mania map.

UPDATE: Visiting Author - Jonathan Camm

Unfortunately, due to a family illness, Jonathan has had to travel back to the UK and will be unable to visit us next week. However, we will be rescheduling his visit for early next calendar year. Don’t worry if you’ve already paid for or have ordered books they will still be coming. We will update you as soon as we have fixed a date.
