Primary School Sport: Racing towards the Term 1 finish line

A chance to look back at an incredible first term of Primary Sport at St Andrews International School Bangkok. Plus we had more gymnastics, a triathlon our and our very first STA Biathlon.

Summary of sport

What an exciting first term it’s been at the Primary School. There has been so many opportunities both old and new for our children.

We are in the last week of Term 1 and we are still busy. We had our first ever STA Biathlon event at High School with over 200 children and parents involved. We had a final gymnastics event of the term and our third event in three weeks. Also, some of our children were competing in a triathlon on their day off.

Last week we had close to 60 children at trial for the Primary FOBISIA Games. The 3-day sports tournament is from the 10 - 14 June 2019 and it will be another tough test for our young athletes. Emails will go to parents by Wednesday with a letter of invitation.

In Term 2 we look to continue to offer more exciting opportunities for our Primary children. Please read below for some of the things happening in Term 2 and also some of the opportunities available for our Primary children. Please contact Mr Damon if you would like to find out more about any sports ECA.

STA Biathlon

On Saturday 8 December, we hosted our first ever Biathlon event which saw over 200 STA students and parents take part. It began late due to the rain and storm but thankfully with the great organisation of the PE team it all ran smoothly. Well done to all the parents and children who supported our first STA Biathlon and a big thank you to K. Seung for organising the event. Also, thank you to the PTG for supplying fruit and healthy snacks for everyone.

Our final gymnastics competition was on Saturday and was our third in three weeks keeping our young gymnasts busy before the break. This week saw another group of children compete with our Level 3 Primary children getting their chance to show their stuff.

Well done to all the STA children who, on their day off, took part in the ISB Triathlon. It was great to see so many children enjoying these events. Well done to Gina who won her event.

NAE Games, Phnom Pehn

It has been a week since our NAE Games children game back from the Cambodia. What an incredible achievement, not losing one single game over the 2 days of competition. The party for the children is on Thursday this week to celebrate their hard work and success.

Term 1 Review

What an amazing Term 1 it has been.  So many different children competing for St Andrews International School Bangkok in a variety of sports from swimming, football, basketball, teeball, dance, gymnastics, tennis, triathlon, X country, golf. The highlights for me have been our International trips ,plus the growth of our gymnastics and dance teams.

Here are a few photos of some of our children in Term 1.

The STA Tennis programme Term 1 has come to a successful end. Well done to all players who took part in this great sport. Thank you parents for your continued support and we are looking forward to great fun tennis in Term 2.

After the success at the BISP Soccer 7s in Phuket, our Primary teams have a busy schedule come January. For our Blaze teams we have the TISAC season which will involve league games and also a tournament. This is a great opportunity for all the children in our football squads to represent St Andrews International School Bangkok again.

In January we have the HIS International Tournament that falls on the same weekend as FOBISIA for gymnastics, so some girls will have a tough job to decide which they would like to do. For this tournament we would like to take two U9 boys/girls teams and then our U11 boys/girls Flames. Unfortunately, at this current time there is no space for any U11 Blaze teams.

In February we have the BISAC end of season football tournament where we will take our U11 Flames teams. In March we have the new NAE football tournament (only for U11) in Vietnam. At this current time the tournament hasn’t got a great intake of teams who can take part. For this reason we may have to wait until the tournament grows before entering. I will know more come the end of January.

Also, in March we have the Patana U9 tournament where we hope to take both U9 girls teams and 2 or 3 boys teams.

So much on offer for our children who enjoy football.

Our STA Dance team will perform their routine that won them 1st place at the TISAC Dance Competition during the Christmas Concert on 12 December.

Healthy Holidays

We’re planning two camps over the holidays before Christmas: our Multi-Sport Camp and our Basketball camp. More details will follow by email soon.

Sporting Conferences

We appreciate that you are often hearing different acronyms - TISAC, BISAC, FOBISIA - that we are involved in but may not know much about them. We hope that the following overview will therefore be useful.

We are currently members of four conferences or organisations:

TISAC: Thailand International Schools Activities Conference

We have been members for many years. This has 16 schools involved which vary in size from small to very large. Currently, we mostly enter Blaze teams in TISAC. There are leagues and tournaments in several sports from U9-U19 and next year, TISAC will also start its own multi-sport Games for Primary children.

BISAC: Bangkok International Schools Athletic Conference

This is our first year in BISAC. The 12-school membership includes the largest international schools in Bangkok in leagues and tournaments across many sports, from U9-U19, split into four seasons through the year. BISAC schools also run invitational tournaments.

FOBISIA: Federation of British International Schools in Asia

This has three major multi-sport Games per year (Primary, U13 and U15) that take place in Phuket against other schools across Asia. There are also single-sport events in Tennis, Golf, Swimming and more, which take place across Asia and provide some amazing travel opportunities.

NAE: Nord Anglia Education

We are part of the South East Asia division and meet for a U11 multi-sport Games once a year. Our schools take it in turn to host the NAE Games.

In addition, we are part of the wider circuit regionally which means we are invited to a whole range of other events across Thailand.

Currently we are able to offer STA students opportunities through these conferences in Football, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Badminton, Golf, Teeball, Track and Field, Triathlon, Cross Country.

If you have any questions about these conferences, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Ollie (HS - or Mr. Damon (PS -

Term 2 Sports

There are some new developments for Term 2 ECA sports. We are always trying to offer even more sporting opportunities for our children and hopefully our new Sports Programme for Term 2 will not disappoint. These will all start from 14 January.

  • Open badminton will continue (2 slots: 2.45 - 3.45 p.m. and then 3.45 - 4.45 p.m.) - Sports Hall

  • STA Badminton/open badminton (more badminton for our children and a chance for children who want to play more and also for children playing for STA in Term 2 competitions) - Pridi Soi 41 - 2.45 - 4.15 p.m.

  • An email will be sent to invite children to be part of the STA badminton going over to Pridi Soi 41.
