The BYTE Theatre Ensemble from Australia engrossed our students with the issues they brought to the forefront as well as with the subtlety and sensitivity of their expression… Year 9 Drama students will be headed to Kuala Lumpur this week to participate in the FOBISIA Drama Festival.
On 14 and 15 February, the BYTE Theatre Ensemble from Australia performed ‘Missing in Me’. This absorbing theatre piece explored the themes of identity, parent-child relationships, love and what it means to be young in today’s times. Our students were engrossed by these important issues and enjoyed watching them being explored in a subtle and sensitive way. The in-depth creation of characters and skilful realisation through the dialogue and other performance techniques gave them valuable knowledge that they can transfer to their own performances.
Following on from this, Joachim delivered a number of workshops. This resulted in our students having the amazing opportunity to work with a professional director who shared his expertise and knowledge of theatre with them. Our students gained so much creatively by collaborating with Joachim and the actors.
This Wednesday a group of very enthusiastic Year 9 Drama students will be attending the FOBISIA Drama Festival at the Garden International School Kuala Lumpur. The exciting itinerary consists of workshops and devising tasks that will culminate in performances at the end of the Festival. As well as this, the students will have the opportunity to work with and watch a performance by The Handlebards, a Malaysian-based collective theatre company.
Some of our Year 9 FOBISIA Drama students had previously had the opportunity to participate in a workshop with Joachim Matschoss. This gave them an excellent introduction into the types of activities they will be involved with over the week in Kuala Lumpur.
