Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1: Busking and celebrating the Year of the Dog

On the way to the Sustainability House Assembly, students learned about busking… A lion dance inaugurated the Year of the Dog at Primary... PAWS and Malee visited to teach our students a lesson on Pets.

Sustainability House Assembly

Friday was a very exciting day with so many different things going on.  Our Sustainability House Assembly started the day, with the traditional half-termly  ‘Points Reveal’, and the announcement of the winners of the House Mascot Competition.

On the way to assembly the children were entertained by some very professional buskers, to introduce the children to the concept of ‘Busking’ before the launch of Busking Week after the break.

With the juggling skills of Mr Jon, the Football finesse of Mr Damon and the musical talents of Ms Marie, Ms Alice, Mr Keith and Mr Steve it was hard to decide whose hat to put your money in.

Happy Chinese Year!

Friday break time was an exciting and noisy interlude in the day.  The whole of Foundation Stage and Primary turned out onto the field to watch the Lion Dance to celebrate The Year of the Dog.

Some younger members of the audience prefered to keep their distance, but most were happy to say hello to the lion once the drumming had stopped. Foundation Stage looked wonderful all dressed in their red costumes and all of the children in their classes learned about the traditions associated with Chinese New Year.

PAWS

This half term has seen Y1 thinking about our feathered, furry and scaly friends, as their topic on Pets has taught them all about what animals need to keep them healthy and happy.

As part of their work the children have been supporting a couple of pet charities and finding out all about the work they do. Our friends from PAWS came to pay us a visit, along with Malee, Mr Colin’s very friendly Yorkshire Terrier. Even people who are a little bit nervous of dogs made a new friend - and she made lots of friends!

The teachers organised a special Pet Food Drive and ran it as a House Competition.  Ms. Emma has a big thank-you to make to everyone who contributed.

On behalf of all the cats and dogs waiting for their forever home, Year 1 would like to say a huge thank you for all the donations of cat and dog food. These donations have been sent to PAWS and Pic-a-Pet4Home charities where they were gratefully received!
