Sport: Communicating through SOCS

Another busy week for our Flames teams plus important information regarding High School Sports Days, sports camps during the mid-term break as well as exciting developments in communications for sport events.

Primary School Sport

Looking to the future we have many exciting events coming the children’s way. After half-term we have a mini triathlon for our Reception children, more TISAC football festivals, several swim meets including the Marlin Mayhem and more BISAC athletics. Plus our very first Gymnastics squad have their first competition at the Moose Games.   This will be just the start of our Gymnastics journey with more events to follow.

School Online Communication System - SOCS

We’re very excited to announce that we are now using a new online system to help coordinate our busy sports schedule. The SOCS programme is used by many large schools around the world and is essential to us in moving to full BISAC membership in the near future.

The system allows us to input all team data and details of each fixture. There is a calendar, the option to upload photos from games and there are maps to many of the venues. Training schedules and changes to training can be accessed on the site.

The site is open for players and parents alike to check rosters, schedules etc. It is a great tool for communication between coaches, players and parents, though unlike the current system, the emphasis will be on parents and players to be proactive in checking the site, rather than awaiting emails from coaches!

We will still need to communicate via email for transport requirements for the time being.

We are in the process of building the database of information to make the site fully functional, but it is essentially up-and-running and you may access it using the following link:

http://sport.standrews.ac.th/Default.asp?Id=29468

We recommend that you visit the site and familiarise yourself with it. If you have any feedback, please let either damon.se@standrews.ac.th">Mr Damon or ollie.fa@standrews.ac.th">Mr Ollie know.

By August, we hope everyone will be ready to use SOCS to follow the action!

Football

After our recent successes we now focus our attention on TISAC football.  This year we hope to give as many boy squad players some game time as possible. Our girls U11/U9 A squads will play in their TISAC league games. The times of the games will be from 1.00 p.m. - 3.00 p.m. (returning to school for approx. 4.00 p.m.) and the dates are:

  • U9 Boys TISAC football festival - 6 February @ ASCOT
  • U9 Girls TISAC football festival- 6 February @ Soccer Pro
  • U11 Girls TISAC football festival -7 February   @ Soccer Pro
  • U11 Boys TISAC football festival - 7 February @ ASCOT

This is a great opportunity for our STA children to stay active and to build on their skills during the break.

Badminton

Our Badminton squads have started and we will be looking to get some friendly games in before our tournaments.

If you would like your daughter or son to take part in the open badminton on a Tuesday then please email Khung Seung at (seung.sa@standrews.ac.th">seung.sa@standrews.ac.th).

Badminton Squad training is in the Sports Hall from 12.40-1.10 pm:

  • Every Tuesday lunchtime for U9s from 12.10-12.40pm in the Sports Hall

  • Every Thursday lunchtime for U11s from 12.10-12.40pm in the Sports Hall

Saturday Programme and Outside Opportunities

Our Saturday Programme continues to grow with so many great sporting options for our children.  It is great that STA students can come to the Primary School and keep active over the weekend and have fun with their friends playing sport. On Saturday mornings we have gymnastics, girls football, yoga, Club Basketball and our Flames Basketball Academy.  Currently, we are looking at opportunities to extend the football so that all of our children have the chance to play football at the weekend.  We are also trying to encourage more children to join up for endurance events that take place specifically for children at the weekends.  If you would like to know more about our Saturday program please email Mr Damon (damon.se@standrews.ac.th">damon.se@standrews.ac.th) or to enquire about the endurance events, please email Khun Seung (seung.sa@standrews.ac.th">seung.sa@standrews.ac.th).

High School Sport

3 on 3

Flames 3on3 Basketball Invitational

On Saturday, 10 February, we are hosting our first major Basketball tournament. It is open to U15s and has attracted top teams from across the scene in Thailand including strong basketball school teams from BISAC, two basketball academies and teams from Pattaya and Phuket.

Please feel free to come and support us in our Sports Hall at High School. We’ll be using our bleachers for the first, with games streamed live on our Facebook page so it would be good to have a full house to cheer on our Flames teams!

Senior Invitational Games, Pattaya

18610485 20106550 62705102 95499211

Our Senior Flames teams travelled to Pattaya over the weekend to attend the annual Games. On Day 1, our girls had a great run to the semi-finals in the Basketball, where they were narrowly beaten. They bounced back and won the playoff for third. The boys, meanwhile, went all the way to the final of the Football, where they finished runners-up.

On Day 2, both teams reached the finals, with the girls claiming the runners-up spot in the Football and the boys going all the way to the Basketball Championship!

Both teams deserve praise for the way that they worked hard and represented STA. We’re very proud of them.

Sports Days

Last Friday, the students signed up for events at their Sports Day on the following dates:

  • 27 February: Year 7

  • 28 February: Year 8

  • 8 March: Year 10

  • 9 March: Year 9

The rosters will be posted on the PE notice board later this week.

We’re looking forward to four great days off site at Ramkhamhaeng University stadium, with each Year having their own event for the first time.

Students will need to wear their House t-shirt, PE pants and trainers.
