High School: Into the last three weeks...

We’re into the last three weeks of Term 2… It’s also the last three weeks of school for our Year 13 students, and these weeks are certainly going to be busy!

193 hs 1

It’s very busy in the High School as we head into the last three weeks of Term 2, with very successful trips FOBISIA Golf Tournament and the Under 13 FOBISIA Games taking place last week - see the Sport section of this Newsletter for more details.

193 hs 2

The previous week, 11 St Andrews students flew to Shanghai to compete in the 2018 FOBISIA Maths Competition at BISS Puxi. The event itself lasted two days and the competition was fierce as 224 students split into 54 teams from schools all across South East Asia went head to head in a series of grueling Maths challenges. These challenges were in the form of both team challenges and individual challenges and varied from multiple choice question rounds to a very challenging tangram round. There was even a round where the students needed to build a crane out of only the materials they were given. The whole competition was very enjoyable and the students, Aaryan (Y7), Aadi (Y7), Be'eri (Y7) Pari (Y7), Tigger (Y7), Data (Y8), Henry (Y8), Imri (Y8), Isabel (Y8), Juan (Y8) and Sari (Y8) did themselves and the whole St Andrews community very proud. A special mention goes to Sari who came first out of all 224 students in the individual competition! This is a fantastic achievement as there were a lot of extremely strong Mathematicians taking part.

193 hs 3

A few weeks earlier, three Year 10 students from St Andrews attended the International Math Challenge hosted annually by Pan-Asia International School, with the final round held at King Mongkut Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. Congratulations to Sensam, Ing and Krish on their excellent performances in this competition.

193 hs 4

This week, our attention turns to the Arts, with a Piano and Chamber Recital in the Jo Adamson Theatre on Wednesday afternoon and then the opening of the IB Visual Arts Exhibition on the 7th Floor on Thursday afternoon. These both promise to be fantastic events.

Next week we have the Year 7 and 8 Concerts and Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings, following the publication of KS3 Term 2 Grade Reports on Friday - Parents of students in Years 7 and 8 will receive more information about the Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings from Mr Eoin and Mr Paul respectively very soon. Year 9 parents will be receiving information regarding the rearranged Year 9 House Athletics, which was rained off two weeks ago.

193 hs 5

Mention of the weather leads onto an Air Quality update. This week is Asia-Pacific Clean Air Week, and it is good to see that this morning we have some of the best air-quality that we have seen for a while, especially now that we can see this on our new AirVisual Pros. These are now setup in both the Primary School and the High School and we have applied to have them listed publicly, so that parents can share our live, local data rather than rely on data from other parts of the city. I will email all High School parents as soon as we have been approved.

I look forward to seeing you at the events described above as we head towards the end of Term 2...
