I hope everyone had a really enjoyable half term and feels re-energised for the last part of this academic year. It’s certainly going to be a very busy four weeks until we reach the finish line on Friday 29th May at lunch time.

Graduation

Last Saturday 26th May our school held the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2018 at the Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park Hotel. This was a very special occasion for the graduates, their families, close friends and their teachers. The Class of 2018 is the first class to be graduating from our new High School campus having spent their final year enjoying the facilities and more-tailored learning environment.

The graduation ceremony consisted of two parts. The first being the formal speeches and awarding of the St Andrews High School Diploma. This marks the end of their time at school and the start of their new adventures at college, university or work. Following this, drinks and dinner were served while less formal speeches from the class tutors of the Class of 2018 entertained all in attendance. Lots of student representatives spoke from the heart about their time at St Andrews and the experiences they had shared with their friends and teachers. It was a truly memorable evening for everyone involved.

Congratulations to our Graduating Class of 2018!

Year 2 Sleepover

In Year 2 it has long been one of the traditional ‘rites of passage’ to take part in the annual sleep-over. It is a great way to demonstrate the developing independence that will be needed in Year 3 . The school was very much alive when I arrived at 6.15am to start my day.

Miss Miri explains more...

On the morning of Thursday 24th May, Year 2 students excitedly arrived at school with bags overflowing with blankets, pillows and some of the largest cuddly toys ever seen! Moods were varied across the year group with some eager and some slightly apprehensive faces, but everyone spent the day chatting about the sleepover and how much food they would eat at dinner and which teacher they were going to throw a wet sponge at!

After school finished some children went off to their ECAs, and the rest of us waited in our classrooms watching movies – really all we wanted to do was get out our sleeping bags and play! After a quick snack of cheese sandwiches, crispy apples and juice we met upstairs in the red room to play some games. We played rounders, we hula-hooped, we threw balls and ran around, and then we went down to the T Block playground to throw wet sponges at our teachers! A BIG thank you to all parents who sent in a donation for the Mercy Centre!

After all the excitement we had built up quite an appetite, and so dinner came at just the right time. We enjoyed chicken, fried rice, chips, pork ribs and plenty of vegetables before returning to the classrooms for some chosen activities. The children chose between crafts, iPad reporters, The Incredibles movie, Just Dance and mindful colouring.

Then it was back to the classrooms to set up our beds! This was actually the most exciting bit. The children maturely decided where was best to sleep, organising themselves to make sure their friends had space. We chatted, ate some popcorn, brushed our teeth, had two bedtime stories and the lights went out!

All children were asleep by around 10pm – and the teachers soon after.

The next morning, 100 sleepy Year 2s (and some even sleepier teachers) made their way down to breakfast to enjoy our last meal before parents came to pick up their children. A VERY successful sleepover for everyone who took part. Well done Year 2s!
