Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1: Get to know your teacher

Find out more about the “Meet the Year Group” sessions taking place at St Andrews International School Bangkok this week as well as ways to recycle unused household items.

Last week was very busy as all returning families came back to school and new families started to find their way around the campus and familiarise themselves with routines. As with all transitions, some children breezed through the changes, whilst others needed a little more support, but on the whole it was a smooth start. The new teachers and support staff finished the week tired, but all very positive about the St Andrews experience and the welcome they had received from colleagues, children and parents.

Meet the Year Group (Y2-Y4)

On Tuesday 28 August there will be the “Meet the Year Group” presentations, which will give you curriculum information and tell you about some highlights of the year ahead. The meetings will all begin in the Sports Hall at 4.00 p.m., and then Y2 will move to the Drama Studio for a presentation specific to Y2. We will run each presentation twice to accommodate parents who have more than one child across these years.

There will be an opportunity after the meetings to look around the classrooms if you wish to.

Any Y2 children who have to come along to the meeting with you will be supervised by the TAs in the T Block playground or, if it’s raining, in one of the Y2 classrooms. Please drop them off there on your way to the main meeting.

For your information, the meetings for Y5 and Y6 will be on Thursday.

Meet the Teacher (3-6 September)

From Monday to Thursday next week there will be another opportunity to meet the teachers for a short discussion about your child. You will find out about these optional meetings at the Meet the Year Group sessions.

Recycling and Sustainability

Readers of the newsletter and visitors to school will have noticed the recycling bins that have appeared across the campus. The children are now much more knowledgeable about what can be recycled, from canteen waste to paper cups.

Ms Sarah, our STEAM co-ordinator, is also sending out a plea for things that we can re-use:

Dear Parents,

If you have been collecting things at home and are looking to make good use of them - such as gift ribbon, normal ribbon, old clothes (for the fabric,) bubble wrap, old Christmas/birthday cards for cutting up the pictures, buttons, beads, lollipop sticks, straws etc. please look no further!

Whilst we can buy nice new resources, there's a lot of trial and error involved with some STEAM projects and we really would like to use as much recycled materials as possible, especially for the prototype stage - and it's good for our students to be aware that 'brand new' is not always necessary.

Please send any STEAM donations to my classroom (C11 - Y6 quad)
