High School Sport: Strong start sets the tone

Many squads have already played their first games of the season with some very strong results. Two ballers have shown that they belong on the international stage. We review some important upcoming dates and remind parents that they can also join in the fun.

First games of the season

We enjoyed a great first week of BISAC games, led by the Varsity Girls Volleyball team winning 3-0, the U15B, U13B and U13G Basketball teams all comfortably victorious, and the Varsity Boys Football team ending the week with a 7-3 win too.

This week sees several more Basketball games as well as Football and Touch Rugby. For our home games, please feel free to come support and see our amazing students in action.

All games are listed on our STA Sports calendar, which you can view from our Moodle home page (right -hand side) and add to your own Google calendar.

Basketball in the blood!

We’re very excited to hear that another two of our ballers have made the Junior NBA team that will enjoy an all-expenses paid trip to China for an exhibition tournament and to see a game featuring the NBA Champions.

Pear and Jump are both in our U15s. Pear has been a member of our squads since Primary and was our MVP last year. Jump joined us last year but is already a key player for our Flames Boys. Pear was selected as MVP for the final training & selection camp last weekend.

We’re very proud to have them as shining examples in our Flames squads.

Upcoming Events

We’re pleased to announce a new event in our calendar, the Friday Night Game. This will start with our Varsity ballers taking on some local rivals in an evening tip-off game. There’ll be music, dance, popcorn, skills challenges, a half-court shot comp and plenty of loud support in the bleachers, we hope.

The event will be ticketed and is open to our community who fancy cheering on our oldest and best Flames ballers in the school! More details to follow.

We also have our own Flames U13 3on3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday 6 October.

3on3 basketball is a game played with one hoop and which is very exciting, as there is constant action. We have several teams coming from other schools as well as an academy.

Team details will follow shortly.

Upcoming Trips

We have several trips coming up soon as follows:

  • U15 FOBISIA Games
  • Phuket Soccer 7s

  • Senior Games, Pattaya

  • U13 FOBISIA Games
  • Phuket 3on3
  • FOBISIA Tennis, New Delhi
  • FOBISIA Golf

March, in particular, is a busy time and there may be some tough decisions to be made about which trips to go on.

New Kit

Thank you for purchasing new kit for your Flames & Blaze children. Please note that all footballers need to buy the brand new squad shirt in order to play. They may train in their old shirt.

In addition to the regular squad kit, there are also STA hoodies available in the shop for any student to buy. We think it looks really cool and will help to keep our athletes warm at game time.

The hoodie is entirely optional however!

Parent Activities

We actively encourage our amazing parent body to be involved with us and keep fit. This sends a wonderful message to our students about leading healthy, active lifestyles both as children and as adults.

In collaboration with the PTG, we offer organised sessions covering a range of sports and activities at school, using our facilities. These include volleyball, yoga, fitness, swimming, running, zumba, tennis. Some of these are run by our own staff and others are run by external staff.

Details about these will be sent to you and sign-ups are on Moodle, just as for ECAs. Key personnel will be Ann, who has children at High School and will be the parent liaison for this; and Miss Aanchal, in the High School Office (Front Desk)

We love seeing parents work out during the day on campus - please come and join our active social circle.

(PS Volleyball is represented by our own Spicey Spikers, who even play against our girl’s team each term. Having lost some players last term, they’re now looking for new members. No need to be experienced - it’s all a bit of fun! Please contact Miss Jo ( First session is at HS tomorrow, 21 August at 2.45pm).
