High School Sport: Building momentum

Find out about some of the early successes of our Flames squads… Mark your calendars for the upcoming events and trips for the next few months.

Early games of the season

Our second week of BISAC competition started a strong set of victories for the U15B & U13G Basketball teams at home against ASB. Both teams hit a 30-point gap and played some fantastic offense and defense. On Thursday, the U13B held on for a 2-point win against SHB having held a comfortable lead at the end of the third quarter. The mental resilience shown by the team was fantastic and one of the reasons playing competitive sport benefits students

Our U15G Touch Rugby team enjoyed a successful afternoon in their triangular fixture against BPS and NIST. In their first competitive season, they won both games and showed good knowledge of the game already.

The tennis season kicked off on Sunday 16th September with ISB U19 Doubles Invitational Tournament at ISB. Our players approached the game with improved strategy, tactics and psychology while progressing through. A great deal of teamwork and communication took place on and off court - pre-match decisions, how to keep the ball in play, maximizing angles and spaces on the court, best serve and return, controlling the net, etc. It was fantastic to see our players enjoy themselves, encourage and complement each other in terms of both skills and temperament. A good start to the year indeed!

Games continue in Week 3, with plenty of basketball and also tennis. Please see the STA Sports calendar or look on Moodle for all sports fixtures.

Upcoming Events

We’re pleased to announce a new event in our calendar, the Friday Night Game. This will start with our Varsity ballers taking on some local rivals in an evening tip-off game. There’ll be music, dance, popcorn, skills challenges, a half-court shot comp and plenty of loud support in the bleachers, we hope.

The event will be ticketed and is open to our community who fancy cheering on our oldest and best Flames ballers in the school! More details to follow.

Parent Activities

We actively encourage our amazing parent body to be involved with us and keep fit. This sends a wonderful message to our students about leading healthy, active lifestyles both as children and as adults.

In collaboration with the PTG, we offer organised sessions covering a range of sports and activities at school, using our facilities. These include volleyball, yoga, fitness, swimming, running, zumba, tennis. Some of these are run by our own staff and others are run by external staff.

Details about these will be sent to you and sign-ups are on Moodle, just as for ECAs. Key personnel will be Ann, who has children at High School and will be the parent liaison for this; and Miss Aanchal, in the High School Office (Front Desk) aanchal.mi@standrews.ac.th">aanchal.mi@standrews.ac.th

We love seeing parents work out during the day on campus - please come and join our active social circle.

(PS Volleyball is represented by our own Spicey Spikers, who even play against our girl’s team each term. Having lost some players last term, they’re now looking for new members. No need to be experienced - it’s all a bit of fun! Please contact Miss Jo (jo.fa@standrews.ac.th">jo.fa@standrews.ac.th. First session is at HS tomorrow, 21 August at 2.45pm).
