High School: Bangkok is our classroom

As well as our Enrichment Trips at St Andrews International School Bangkok, there are regular day trips for students to study different subjects outside the classroom, with recent trips including Year 7s trip to the National Science Museum and Year 9’s trip to Suvarnabhumi Airport

On Tuesday and Wednesday last week, Year 9 students visited Suvarnabhumi Airport and the Suvarnabhumi Airport Museum as part of their Greener Skies Geography topic. The students learned a great deal about the history, and future, of air travel in Thailand, including the planning and development of Suvarnabhumi and the future plans for Terminal 2, as well as visiting the Observation Deck.

On Wednesday last week, half of Year 7 visited the National Science Museum. As in last week’s Newsletter, this report was written by students in the new Student Journalists ECA, who this week also took the photos.

Last Wednesday, 19th September 2018, was an eagerly anticipated day for Year 7, as 7a, b, c, d and e students went to visit the National Science Museum for an amazing Science trip. It took one hour to get there, in huge double-decker buses.

We were wearing our House t-shirts, because we had been told that we had House activities, and when we got to the museum we were given a task by our teachers to do a Treasure Hunt. We had to use QR codes to find questions and then answer them using the displays and exhibitions in the museum. If we got good marks we were rewarded with House Points.

In the museum, we also had a lot of interesting and exciting activities provided by our teachers that we could both enjoy and learn from. We could experience earthquakes, control robots, and enjoy other activities that were very fun with our friends. According to our interviews, while some students enjoyed the Treasure Hunt and thought it was a fun and effective learning experience others did not enjoy this as much, as they would have preferred more freedom to explore the gigantic museum on their own.

As you can see from the Calendar below, there are many more trips taking place between now and half-term, when the world comes to St Andrews for our annual International Day. More details coming soon...
